Dreams: Source material for writers.

This came from one of my dreams. I wrote down as much as I could remember
immediately after I woke up.

War between two personality types.

Husband and wife recognize that one is one of the types,
and the other is of the other type.

They discuss the situation, and conclude that it is possible
for the two different personality types to get along with each other.

The juvenile son in this family is a secret leader of a group of the
husband's personality type.

Final two scenes.

*******

The husband and son have been put in prison. The father and son are
in separate cells across the hall from each other.

"Dad, how can we stand being locked up like this?"

The father responds, "Find something to feel good about the situation.
It should take you only a few moments to figure it out."

The son smiled. "Yes. It's just another thing to feel good about."

************

The father, along with a score of other adults of the same personality type
have been gathered together to be interrogated as a group.

When the interrogator stands in front of them, they stand rank and file, shoulder to
shoulder. The interrogator says,"I know one of your leaders is a child, an extraordinarily
brilliant child. Who is it?"

Each person in the group looks at their side neighbors. Each person shakes hands with
their neighbors. Then as if one person, the group backs up two steps and each person stares
stonily at the interrogator.

Ahhh, Dreams!
The fleeting moments that are harder to grasp than reality.
What do you think Kermit, are dreams made of the things that we want to do or the things that we will do or the things we should have done?
Is it a lesson or a expression?

Hello MsTerry.

Dreams express our thoughts.

Dreams can teach us, if we wish it so.

Dreams are made of the things we want to do,
And
of the things that we anticipate
And
of the things we wish we had done
And
of the things we should know
And
. . .

Now that is where I get confused with my sleepy head.
How can I distinguish one from the other?

As a aside, a girlfriend of mine just literally burned down her house, her possessions, her life while barbecuing with the man that I think will ruin her life. Will she get this clear warning? I hope so, but probably only in hindsight.

So, Kermit, when do we know what is knocking at our door?

My feeling is that too often we don't know what's knocking at our door until it's almost too late to deal with it.

Many people believe that dreams can be warnings, but I don't feel that dreams are special in that way.

Dreams simply express our deepest thoughts and feelings. To listen to your dreams enables you to know yourself more effectively. It does not tell you anything about the outside world that you do not already know.

but if you've had a rehearsal in your dreams, you would be better prepared

Dreams simply express our deepest thoughts and feelings. To listen to your dreams enables you to know yourself more effectively. Are you speaking from personal experience? and if so, can you share something with us

It does not tell you anything about the outside world that you do not already know.but the outside world is all about perception, it is hard enough to know our inside world.

your dreaming mind can figure it out, then you can use that dream to
prepare for what would otherwise be unexpected.

Dreams, like all our other thinking is often about giving ourselves options.

<!-- BEGIN TEMPLATE: bbcode_quote --> <!-- using waccobburl --> Quote:

<!-- END TEMPLATE: bbcode_quote -->

If I dream about me flying, then this represents my ambition. I want to do things that no-one else can do.

If I dream about people close to me, then it reflects unresolved issues involving them that I should apply my conscious intelligence to resolve.

<!-- END TEMPLATE: bbcode_quote -->

Here I must affirm a different point of view. The outside world
IS NOT all about perception. The outside world cannot be perceived.

Our perceptions reflect ONLY an internal world created by our guesses and our logic.

The fact that our internal re-construction of the outside world works so well invokes a religious feeling.

The outside world must be simple in design, complicated in detail.

You can use your dream mode of thinking while still awake.
Look at a cloud. What shapes do you see in the cloud?

The shapes you see will relate to your basic attitudes and beliefs.

I was dreaming that I was Indiana Jones.
Does that mean I don't have to see the movie anymore?

If I dreamed that I was Indiana Jones, I would probably conclude that
I admired the guy, and wanted to be able to do the things he did.

This would suggest that I should watch the movie over and over again
until I understood what it was about Indiana Jones character that impressed me.

I think Kermit has something there you might want to do, watch the movie more. Usually when we dream of a character it means that character represents a part of ourselves. Many dream authorities agree with this. So if you can get to know that part more in any way it may be valuable to you.

Just about any way of working with dreams is helpful. Making art and writing from dreams have been wonderful resources for many artists.

I have a MA from JFKU in Consciousness Studies and took many classes about dreams. In addition, I have worked with my own dreams for over 25 years. This fall I begin my PhD. I will study with Stanely Krippner, a well know elder in the dream field. At JFKU I studied with several well known people including Jeremy Taylor, Fariba Bogsaron, and Kelly Bulkeley, all have good books out. A wonderful basic dream book is by Jeremy Taylor, Where People Fly and Water Runs Up Hill.

Yes I think Kermit has something there. Any way to work with your dream will usually help. Many dream authorities believe that a character in your dreams is a part of yourself. Getting to know that part will help you understand yourself more.

Writers and artists have used dreams for inspiration a lot more than most people realize.

I studied dreams at JFKU and have worked with my own dreams for over 25 years. I gave a talk at Many Rivers Books and Teas last year also.

A good basic book on working with dreams is Jeremy Taylor's Where People Fly and Water Runs Up Hill.
