KGO Host Indicted on Child Porn Charges

https://imgsrv.kcbs.com/image/DbLiteGraphic/200712/1807907.jpgSAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - A well-known San Francisco radio talk show host and former Catholic priest has been indicted on federal child pornography charges. The operations director for KGO-AM 810 confirms that Bernie Ward surrendered today to federal authorities.
The specifics of the allegations against Ward remain under seal.
Ward, often called the Lion of the Left for his liberal views, hosts a nightly news talk program on KGO as well as a program called GodTalk on Sundays.
He is also a frequent voice on various cable network news programs offering political commentary.
Ward's lawyer tells KGO that the incidents in question are from more than four years ago and were a part of research for a book.
His lawyer says that as part of the research, Ward downloaded a few images of child pornography.
"What the law looks at is did he knowingly possess child pornography, so the issue what was his intent when he obtained the images," explained San Jose criminal defense attorney Steven Clark. "What did he do with the images?"
Ward appeared before a federal judge yesterday morning, pleading not guilty to charges of using the Internet to send and receive child pornography. "When all the facts are out on these charges, Bernie will be complete vindicated," insisted his friend and business attorney, Jeannette Boudreaux. "I'm sure that he'll respond in a very articulate matter."
Clark questions the proposed defense. "Maybe like saying you know, I possessed heroin because I was writing a book about heroin. You're not allowed to do it."
Ward is due back in court in late January to receive a trial date. In the meantime, he has been pulled from the airwaves by KGO management. Substitute hosts will handle his weekday evening and Sunday morning programs.

Actually, I'm sorry Bernie blew it. I liked listening to him ranting on the radio. It's really sad he was going down this twisted road. I hope his kids are OK and I feel really sorry for his wife. I don't feel as sorry for him.

I think his defense is a sham.

I have a friend who is a professional diver. I've watched the great difficulty he has getting his suit on. I can't even imagine how someone would put a second on top of the first let alone trying to understand the erotic attraction.

I suppose it has to do with extreme repression. Those who aren't free to follow erotic bliss pervert their erotic impulses and they come out in strange ways.

Just finished reading part of the Smoking Gun transcripts. Got a bit sick after page 5, so I couldn't finish. I'd like to say "thanks, Jeff", but ugh!
Listened to Ron Owens yesterday, with Bernie's counsel, I think. Terrible. After reading that transcript, I know his family was interviewed by experts. Poor kids. If how the transcript read was true, they should put his kids to sleep, in front of Bernie, and then beat him ALMOST to death with their dead bodies! Then revive him and start all over again.

I think it's worth knowing those about the big hypocrites among us, no matter which way they lean politically. Frankly, I'm waiting for the Democrat Sex Crime list. I can imagine there are a lot of Republicans researching that one.

It's clear that as a culture we're doing something(s) wrong regarding sex. My opinion is that repressing it to the degree we do, in fact, demonizing it the way so many right wing Christians do, begs for it to come out in the worst ways, especially in a corporate culture where everything from underwear, to beer, to pesticide is sold with sexualized images. I think the Republican Sex Crime list is solid evidence of that.

I wonder about the Democrat list. My prediction is the worst offenders will be the crusaders against pornography and prostitution. (Hello, Elliot Spitzer!)

Don't the Dems get it for the money? It's rarely about the sex, or from what I recall.
But as a "society" I doubt there is much that can be done about any one individual. We try to make sense by making generalizations, but all we can come up with are statistics or anecdotal incidents.
It is curious to me that the more sex in commercialization and the fact that folks are producing fewer children may have some corollary, no?
Naw, to many factors like wealth, role of genders, etc. Oh well, we can try. But in the end, it's about :2cents:
