I think Domino will be just fine if you confine the cat for several weeks. I had a cat who tore his ACL (yes, I know this is not the same injury) and bed rest was the advice from an honest vet.

I have also been through torn ACL surgery for my dog, then removal of the plate due to infection at the TPLO site. I wish I had never done surgery.
I suggest you do some research online regarding this particular injury. I'll bet there is a wealth of information out there that your vet did not pass on.

Again, give this some time. Constant pain does not sound like a realistic outcome for this sort of injury.

"The heartbreak happens all too often ? a pet owner is unable to
affordtreatment and their sick or injured companion animal pays the price.
Ifthe owner is elderly, disabled or on a fixed income, the cost of care
may be too much of a stretch for their pocketbook. Perhaps they have
been victimized by crime, property loss or a job layoff and are
experiencing a temporary financial hardship ? making it too
difficult to afford pet care. And some animals, brought to clinics by Good
Samaritans, don't have an owner to pay for treatment. Whatever the
situation, the fact remains the same: When sick or injured animals
are unable to receive veterinary care, they suffer. Through the AAHA
Helping Pets Fund, veterinary care is possible for sick or injured pets even
if they have been abandoned or if their owner is experiencing financial
hardship."

Great suggestion to contact one of the organizations that can assist with vet bills. I can personally vouch for www.imom.org (https://www.imom.org) as I was in contact with them last year. My friend had no $ and her dog needed surgery. The organization could not have been nicer. You will need to provide proof of your financial status (tax return, etc.) in order to be considered. Imom is an organization I enjoy contributing to.
Good luck with Domino, and please keep us informed.
