I am looking for a few loving families who would like to experience the joy of enriching a young person's life and learn about a new culture. I currently have a student from Germany, Mexico, Brazil, and Japan. Other students may be available in the next weeks. Please email [email protected] or call 829-7905 One or two semester students available; arriving in August.

It's a great way for you and your family to experience another culture without ever leaving home!

Jill, are shorter term placements available, such as two families "sharing" one student, or taking a student for a week or two, allowing their host family some family-only time?

There are a variety of options for families who are not ready for the full year. One semester, split-year, emergency only families, and our welcome program which allows new (to hosting) families commit only to the first 8-weeks. I check in at week six to see how they are liking the experience and if they wish to keep their student they can, or I will place the student in a new home. The student is made aware of the "welcome" status before arrival so they are not surprised. Ultimately regardless of the committment, if the student is not a good match for the family (or vice versa) I would move the student anyway. I hope this makes the idea less fearful for people as it really is a wonderful experience. :fairy duster:

Hi, Jill!
I would be willing to be an emergency host for a foreign exchange student. I'm a retired speech therapist, have worked for a foreign exchange program and placed as well as hosted many foreign exchange students over the years. I live in the Sebastol countryside (off Elphick Rd.), and still teach one day a week on the Peninsula. The only caveat is that I have to sleep near school (San Bruno) on Monday nights and will not be home then. If you think this would work for an emergency situation, give me a call: 823-2480. My guest room will be available after 8/15/08.
