Here is a great series of bicycle pictures taken in Amsterdam that I thought is inspiring, and made me terribly homesick.

Are you remembering riding your bike or sitting on the back?

Just don't try this in Sonoma County. You will be arrested for child endangerment. At the very least, you will be ticketed for not making your kids wear helmets. How dare they be so fearless and natural! To top it off, they look happy and relaxed. Do they know something we don't?
Shouldn't pictures like this be banned?
(Are you laughing yet?)

Are you remembering riding your bike or sitting on the back?

I remember both, with my mother, with girls on the back, with my oldest son on the front. What about you? You have a bicycle story to share?

Yes.
When I studied art in Den Haag, and was foolish enough to fall in love, I remember sitting in the front, riding on the bar while my main man was navigating the traffic. It was nerve wrecking (since you have no control) and exhilarating.(since you have the best seat, and you get to smell your loved one)
I remember the ice cold wind in my face, my eyes tearing, my nose dripping, my ears beet red. But once you got inside your whole body was tingling with excitement.
Thanks for the memories, Zeno

I have traveled to Holland a few times in my life, strictly as a tourist although we very nearly decided to live in the Nederlands. I remember scenes like this as well. Holland is a bike culture and there are two, paved bike lanes on either side of almost every street, road, etc. The bike lanes have THEIR OWN CURB. Bike lanes in Holland are not simply painted onto the road so the cars can routinely run cyclists over and kill them on a regular basis like in the U.S. I didn't just visit the coffeeshops for you know what and the red light district.

Zeno, why did you leave? Holland is a much better country to live in than the United States. Its standard of living is much higher and its quality of democracy is clearly superior (multiparty system, a lot more to choose from and more diversity of ideas and fuller representation).

Edward

Nice try, but I rode in the front, not the back.
