Like almost every other city in California, the City of Sebastopol is facing continued budget challenges with costs rising, revenues flat or falling, and the probability that the State will take away city monies to help solve its very large budget crisis, not to mention the adverse effects of the national recession, and the closure of several key businesses in town. The City Council is considering cuts in city services and the possibility of a Utility User Tax for the November 2008 ballot. The tax may be on use of electric, gas, land line telephone, and cable TV. What is your opinion about these possible taxes? What services would you be willing to do without? We need your opinion!
If you are a City resident, have a business or own property in the City limits, please take the survey on the City web site. The City Council will utilize survey results as part of their consideration of next year’s budget and whether to place a tax measure on the November ballot. The survey is on the City web site. The link to the survey is located on the home page in the Current Events box at: https://talkingpolls.com/2/site/?ph=-5nxajwbmqrj8i7r§ion=home Thank you! -Kenyon Webster, City Planning Director

This is a very cool survey! I must say that it's way more advanced than our WaccoBB polls! I suggest you check it out just for the experience!
And, it's a very important survey! Our local government is asking the fundamental question of whether it should raise taxes or cut services.
Please take the survey (https://talkingpolls.com/2/site/?ph=-5nxajwbmqrj8i7r§ion=home), it only takes a few minutes and it's multiple choice plus optional comments. And let them know you found it from WaccoBB.net!

I find this survey biased, making raising taxes or cutting services the only options. Fund raising from the more wealthy is an option, giving people different levels of donations, Golden Apple, Redwood reward, etc. that could be published in the paper, or we could have an appreciation night.
Also, cutting salaries was not an option when some city employees receive over $100,000. I would like to see the council members receive more and staff less, because they are elected.
Police and Fire should not be in the same category they are very different and people have very different feelings about what is needed in these areas.

This reminds me of that old saw from back in the day about having a bake sale to fund a war.
