Hello All,
Has anyone heard of weaving baskets with fig branches?
I'm pruning a long neglected Fig tree, and am getting some long & flexible branches. I hate to see them go to waste.
Could it work?
Thanks,
Laurie

sounds interesting. I weave but haven't used that material . Let me know if they are still flexible and available on tues eve or wed day....that is when I could pick them up if you are offering to give them away. location? thanks, Irena 887-1227

If you can make a hoop with them, without them breaking, hoop them up (twist them around in a circle, weaving it around), then you can have hoops for future wreaths. Or the hoops can become the stucture of type of basket that uses 2 hoops and more branches for the spokes. They should be hooped up when fresh, then let to dry as they shrink.

This sounds like it would be similar to weaving a basket with willow branches. It would help to remove the bark, cut the branches down to thin slats, and soak the slats in water to keep them supple.
