attempted boat theft, graton/forestville area

Does anyone have any good ideas about the thefts around the Graton area? Someone attempted to steal a friends small boat from his yard last night, but they made so much noise, they gave up their work. Must have been at least two of them, and a pick-up, and right on highway 116. Seems someone is very busy in this area, any solutions?

My thought has been to work with the sheriffs office to set up a sting
these guys are tweakers, have been working Graton etc for over a year now
they stole my shredder and I'd put energy into gettin' them back for it.'
a motion detector with infra-red camera, something valuable with a buried security chain should do it, someone has to be willing to have this all set up on their property!in view of the road.
Let me know if there's a citizens group forming and I'll be there.
