I wanted to let everyone know that our car was vandalized with the window broken and a purse stolen at the trailhead on Green Valley Rd. The police have said that there is a rise in these types of crimes and that they are being committed mostly by our undersupervised youth who are usually doing drugs or drinking and looking for some entertainment.

You may want to be careful about leaving your car in unpopulated areas, particularly with any valuables exposed.

I hope this message helps someone else avoid the hassle that my friend is experiencing right now in having to deal with a stolen purse.

My car was broken in, same fashion, window smashed and bag stolen, on WillowSide Rd, parked on the side of the road at the trail along the creek. They did my wallet and credit cards and within one hour before I cancelled the cards they had charged over $1000. After that i learned from various folks that this is a notorious spot, hearing of 3 other people who had their cars broken in there. I don't have any idea who is responsible for the increased occurance of this, and yes, bummer.

I lived in a quaint part of Menlo Park - and we had similar vandalism, but a neighborhood watch cut that down substantially. I'm a bit surprised I haven't seen or heard of neighborhood watch systems anywhere in Sebastopol. I know hindsight is always 20-20, but never leave anything valuable in your car. I'm a little surprised to see people leave purses or wallets in vehicles. Truly sorry - good thing that credit card companies are pretty good about getting you back on track these days.

Trailheads and parks are notorious for this type of thing. Use a fanny pack and take it with you. If it's too big to carry, don't bring it in the first place!
