Hello -

My Christian in-laws are coming to visit and I'm sure would enjoy going to an Easter service. Does anyone know of a positive, non-blaming type of church where we can take them and our 3 year old daughter?

Thanks!

Sasha

Hi Sasha -

I'd try these churches

S. Rosa - Community Baptist Church - 1620 Sonoma Ave. - (707) 546-0744
(Community Baptist is an Afrrican American led congregation with a diverse membership and a very humanitarian social perspective. Wonderful, joyful music.) Community Baptist is the only Evangelical-style protestant church I included on this list. The other protestant churches I included are "traditional, mainstream" protestant churches.

S. Rosa - Resurrection Parish (Roman Catholic) - 303 Stony Point Road - 544-7272

Sonoma - St. Leo's Catholic Church (Roman Catholic) - 601 Agua Caliente Road - 996-8422

Santa Rosa - Church of the Incarnation (Episcopalian - has a somewhat traditional 'Catholic type' worship format) - 550 Mendocino Ave. - 579-2604 - very progressive, humanitarian priest and congregation

Sebastopol - Community Church of Sebastopol (United Church of Christ) - advertises self in Yellow Pages as "An Open and Affirming Church" - 1000 Highway 116 North - 823-2484

Santa Rosa - First Congregational UCC of Santa Rosa (United Church of Christ) - very progressive, humanitarian pastor & congregation - 2000 HUmboldt St. -- 546-0998

Guerneville - I think the Guernevilel Community Church (United Church of Christ) is very inclusive, but I'm not 100% certain of my facts on that. 14520 Armstrong Woods Road - 869-2514

Santa Rosa - Christ Church United Methodist Church - 1717 Yulupa Ave. - 542-2569 - socially progressive and inclusive

Santa Rosa - Knox Presbyterian Church - 1650 West 3d Street - 544-5468 - socially progressive and inclusive

You and your relatives are always welcome at any Sonoma County Quaker meeting. It's not outwardly Christian in a traditional sense, but Quakerism's roots are Christian, and I'm a devout Christian personally. There won't necessarily be any Easter content to next Sunday's worships, though. People sit in prayerful silence until they feel led to speak. Could say anything, and what they say could just as well be "agnostic", Buddhist or New Agey, as "Christian" in tone. I attend Redwood Forest Friends Meeting (1647 Guerneville Road - Santa Rosa). There's also Appleseed Friends Meeting (call for meeting place - I think it's at Ragle Park, but I'm not certain - 573-6075)

I hope this helps. Feel free to call or eMail me if you have questions

Because it is Easter, most Christian churches will be OK to visit. It depends where they are from and their background.
If in Sebastopol, have them come to Sebastopol Christian Church, on the corner of Jewell and Bodega, across from the fire house. This Friday night they are singing.

Another good one in Sebastopol is the Community Church on the North end of town, Hwy 116 kind of across from O'Reilly's big new buildings.

Hi Sasha,

Our church, the Unitarian Universalist church of Santa Rosa,(on Mendocino Ave), may be what you're looking for...it honors the wisdom and traditions of all faiths and includes lots of laughter, music, poetry, silence for reflection etc...Google for the website if you like...We'll be there with our 28 month old this Sunday.

Check out the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation at 550 Mendocino, Santa Rosa, https://www.incarnation-sr.org/, (read the Open Letter), if that's their flavor, or the Center for Spiritual Living (Religious Science) for a far out experience.

I can't imagine that you could find a more tolerent and progressive Easter Sunday experience than the Center for Spiritual Living on Occidenta Rd. in Santa Rosa. It is a metaphysically based New Thought church that embraces all spiritual traditions. Since Easter is rooted so deeply in the Christian tradition and because we have such a large attendance on Easter Sunday, I'm sure our precious minister, Edward Viljoen, will deliver a message that will be inspiring and embracing to all who attend. We also have a huge choir (70+) which will be singing on Sunday. Be there to be filled with joy by our rendition of Peter Cottontail.
I hope this will help you in making your choice. Blessings to you and your family.

Rev Mary Shelton who was with the Church of Religious Science (Science of Mind) when it was at Luther Burbank is back in town, at a small congregation, called Global Heart Spiritual Center, that meets at the Odd Fellows Hall off College on Pacific in SRosa. She gives a beautiful Easter/Passover-type talk and prayer ceremony at 10 am that touches people deeply and profoundly, without guilt or shame, and evokes light and compassionate love. Hope this helps.

Yes, our neighbor, the Church of the Incarnation is a lovely congregation. Our women's groups have gotten together for lunch several times. If you are looking for a conservative Christian church, I'm sure your in-laws will be pleased. Not only that, but the building is a historical landmark and the Espicopalian services are generally steeped in tradional and are beautiful in themselves.
Personally, I have found that my christian relatives have been quite comfortable with me at UUCSR (accross the street.) https://uusantarosa.org/
Wherever you end up, have a wonderful visit!
Blessings, AnnaLisa

Center for Spiritual Living, Santa Rosa
This is , in my opinion one of the most tolerant environments there are .
Never mind that the music is wonderful , the rev is hip and the people are open and from all kinds of backgrounds .
I love my center
