The unique set of circumstances surrounding the nail-biting democratic contest between Obama and Clinton deserves competent analysis. I have quoted author Tom Gangale below.

“The conventional wisdom is that determining the nominee early is good for the party. The bloodletting is over quickly, then there is plenty of time to join hands and sing "Kumbaya." The historical data suggests otherwise. If one party has no contested nomination, that party wins the presidency in November. However, when the nominations in both major parties are contested, the more contentious nomination process produces the new president. Competition is good. Candidates and their messages are fully-vetted, and their campaigns become finely-honed machines in the course of surviving a bruising, rough-and-tumble fight. Politics is supposed to produce sausage, not a pig in a poke.

Also, the ongoing Clinton-Obama battle will continue to be the media's focus straight through to the convention, while "done deal" McCain hardly will be mentioned. A final consideration is that McCain took a few jabs at Obama while Obama had the "Big Mo," assuming that Obama would be the Democratic nominee that he would face in the general election; however, with Clinton having achieved last week what was necessary to stay in the race, the old Navy pilot can't bomb just one target, he now faces an unpredictable opponent."
