Maybe Zap ought to look into licensing the technology.

Dear Mr President,
This is an exciting idea, or at least a start. but it sounds like it is eating up a lot of storage space with Air Tanks and batteries.
But for $11K you can sign me up too!
Where are they selling them?
Maybe Zap ought to look into licensing the technology.

The air stores quite well ... in the ... air? It only needs to be compressed as the tanks are filled. A "filling" station would have a holding tank, but it need not be large. This is a perfect application for a fully solar powered filling station. Actually, if the car had solar panels built into the top of it a tiny compressor could be running any time the car is in sunlight. Since most cars are parked in the sun a great deal of the time such a vehicle would rarely need "fueling" up.
No batteries, since it's not electric, except to run accessories, lights, etc.
Doesn't look like they're available yet. They're still signing up factories to do the work.
It does look like they're hoping to do some assembly in the US. Good for us since so many jobs are going elsewhere.

PS. I won't be your president until after the 2012 elections.

I think there is some ambiguity in the article.
Its steering wheel is equipped with a 5kW electric moto-alternator. This motor acts as the:
Motor to compress air
Starting motor
Alternator for recharging the battery
Electric moderator/brake
Temporary power supply (e.g. for parking)
No clutch is necessary. The engine is idle when the car is stationary, and the vehicle starts via the magnetic plate which re-engages the compressed air. The electric motor allows for the parking capabilities.
-this is a demand for additional electricity (deep-cycle)
-the stored air cylinders are how big?
-compressors are noisy, especially when they get older
I know you don't have the answers to these Questions, but it remains to be seen if we will ever see when here in CA.
never the less it is an exciting idea and far better than running on veggie oil.
It does look like they're hoping to do some assembly in the US. Good for us since so many jobs are going elsewhere
