WASHINGTON – Just when liberals thought it was safe to start identifying themselves as such, an acclaimed, veteran psychiatrist is making the case that the ideology motivating them is actually a mental disorder.

"Based on strikingly irrational beliefs and emotions, modern liberals relentlessly undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded," says Dr. Lyle Rossiter, author of the new book, "The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness." "Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave."

While political activists on the other side of the spectrum have made similar observations, Rossiter boasts professional credentials and a life virtually free of activism and links to "the vast right-wing conspiracy."

For more than 35 years he has diagnosed and treated more than 1,500 patients as a board-certified clinical psychiatrist and examined more than 2,700 civil and criminal cases as a board-certified forensic psychiatrist. He received his medical and psychiatric training at the University of Chicago.

Rossiter says the kind of liberalism being displayed by the two major candidates for the Democratic Party presidential nomination can only be understood as a psychological disorder.

"A social scientist who understands human nature will not dismiss the vital roles of free choice, voluntary cooperation and moral integrity – as liberals do," he says. "A political leader who understands human nature will not ignore individual differences in talent, drive, personal appeal and work ethic, and then try to impose economic and social equality on the population – as liberals do. And a legislator who understands human nature will not create an environment of rules which over-regulates and over-taxes the nation's citizens, corrupts their character and reduces them to wards of the state – as liberals do."

Dr. Rossiter says the liberal agenda preys on weakness and feelings of inferiority in the population by:
creating and reinforcing perceptions of victimization;
satisfying infantile claims to entitlement, indulgence and compensation;
augmenting primitive feelings of envy;
rejecting the sovereignty of the individual, subordinating him to the will of the government.

"The roots of liberalism – and its associated madness – can be clearly identified by understanding how children develop from infancy to adulthood and how distorted development produces the irrational beliefs of the liberal mind," he says. "When the modern liberal mind whines about imaginary victims, rages against imaginary villains and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives, the neurosis of the liberal mind becomes painfully obvious."

Just goes to show that even a near complete ignoramus can make it through medical school, or, that someone who is very intelligent and informed in one area can be a complete ignoramus in others.

Handy, excuse me, but what a crappy post, unless your idea was to expose how stupid this writer is.

Dr. Rossiter is a doctor of what??? Where are his credentials from anyway?? I suppose we should first consider the source in this case. "Satisfying infantile perceptions of victimization and claims to entitlement." As long as the shoe fits he should wear it.It is not "envy" that sets me ideologically opposing this "conservative" thought.
As for victimization as merely a delusion of some kind, more entitlements are given to drug companies for research. Then, do they ever consider re-paying the public for these donations? This is not envy, it is indignation. Giving back for the common good is not even so much a socialist ideal, but a humanist ideal that we should all strive toward. Once again I believe the "conservative" think tanks are working the LANGUAGE and they are a manipulative and greedy group. Neanderthal if you will.
Pro-War and Pro-life simultaneously. Call ME crazy but Dr. Whozit, er Dr. Rossiter needs a "soveriegn" a king, and fails to undrstand the true meaning of the American Revolution. Those guys were more "liberal" in their day than we are now, and so was Jesus Christ for that matter.
I will bet his "non-association" with any right wing groups is delusional. And for the record, all of the free world has Socialised Medicine, add Cuba and Costa Rica to that, because, they are not spending money on WAR. It's OUR tax dollars. Call me crazy, I don't care, and Pigs Fly on Corporate Jets. I hear global warming is a figment of the imagination too.

Braggi, Scorpiomoon,

You guys don't recognize provocative, intentionally offensive satire when you're slapped in the face with it?

"Dr." Rossiter is obviously some right-wing libertarian, troglodytic, cut-out. The only purpose of the original post by Handy, that I could see, was to get a rise out of you, and he succeeded.

I was tempted to reply with a sardonic, pseudo-infantile, "Same to you, but more of it!", but then thought better.

I know that ignoring provocatuers isn't always the best way to handle them. They don't always go away.

But choosing one's shots, and only responding to the most egregious of slams, well, that's my method. I heartily recommend it to one and all.

That said, well put, both of you.

P.S. I ain't no Liberal, I'm a RADICAL democrat (Philosophy, not Party)

Baiting?? Amping is alright. I am happy to be provoked politically. We can continue to show how "conservatives," work irrationality in method, like Doctor Kracker in the aforementioned article. I saw some Republican Rally snipit the other day, they had Josef Stalin and Hillary on a tee-shirt comparing the two. For the record, note who is closer to a military dictator, GW Bush or another president. My theory is they change the LANGUAGE so everyone somehow misses the real point of any matter. Stalin was NOT a socialist, he "called" himself one, but he was a fascist dictator, who murdered what 4 million to 10 million of his own citizens.

Oxymoronic quagmire, is: Responsive Politics. The supposed responses we want to hear come around once every four years. Powers know what the people really want, and they dont give a rats ass about it even though, we are hearing socialized medicine etc right now, that could easily fade, no matter who wins in November.

It was forwarded to me by a non-wacco-ite. Thought it was humorous and likely to get a rise out here in whine country. On a short search, I'm guessing he found it here:
