SFO Departure<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
How the morning fog fills the green ravines,
as the bleary-eyed sun struggles to rise,
our eyes rattled open by the airport bus,
how untimely we depart from our days.
<o:p></o:p>
Hugging luggage, desire, nostalgia,
we gaze down on traffickers surging
off to their days and their days,
chipping their monuments, polishing stones.
<o:p></o:p>
For a moment we breathe, today we’re not them.
Suspended
we allow the chasm to be stitched
by a great orange leap of engineering and hope.
<o:p></o:p>
Below us a lone boat goes west with its crew of one,
slower than we will, but more certain of home.
<o:p></o:p>
All alone yet together,
and all of us knowing someone who knows,
that the other great leap,
is a chipping, a polishing,
a knowing that with each leap
the great towers bend and weep,
and the ghosts of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:place>Alcatraz</st1:place> cry
O Water! O Mist! O Silence!
<o:p></o:p>
And now we are here, the ends of our lines.
We are good to stay, we are ready to rise.
