Millions of Americans are learning to kick the religious habit despite the fact that bad habits are hard to break:

Most of the new 'affiliations' are atheist, agnostic, or nothing in particular.
Cool!

What's cool about it, IYO, Ed? I find it interesting that the most recent Gallup Poll reports that 82% of Americans still indentify themselves as "Christian". Cool...I guess. https://www.gallup.com/poll/11089/Look-Americans-Religion-Today.aspx
81% believe the Bible is to be taken literally or at least is the inspired word of God.
According to the PD's report (who is owned by the NYTimes): "The religious demographic benefiting the most from this religious churn is those who claim no religious affiliation. People moving into that category outnumber those moving out of it by a three-to-one margin.
The majority of the unaffiliated — 12 percent of the overall population — describe their religion as “nothing in particular,” and about half of those say faith is at least somewhat important to them. Atheists or agnostics account for 4 percent of the total population."
12% are unaffiliated, Ed. Not really that cool when you look at the numbers, I imagine. Only 4% are atheist or agnostic. Still cool with you?
Gallup's report is here: https://www.gallup.com/poll/27682/OneThird-Americans-Believe-Bible-Literally-True.aspx
This report says the unchurched number hasn't changed much at all in 30 years: https://www.gallup.com/poll/19129/How-Many-Americans-Unchurched.aspx
Nothing to throw a party about, now that you've seen the numbers, huh Ed? I imagine not, anyway. :2cents:

Ed is a true European in every sense of the word. And we know that place has a dearth of religious sentiment, being the "greatest" achievement for folks like Ed. That is the zeitgeist of a whole continent and the fruit of that is their population decrease. They are having no more children. Imagine, the richest peoples, with the most to give in every sense of the word, are no longer sharing it with their own progeny? How fun is that? And it can happen here as well!
