My teacher want's my class to do this meditation where we see ourselves giving birth and for some reason I'm having a hard time connecting with this project.

I could use some help learning how to meditate so that I can get past this block and do this project.

Thanks.

That sounds more like a visualization than a meditation!

Yeah I think you're right. It was just that my teacher used the word meditation when asking us to do this excercise.

Sometimes it is difficult to start a visualization without any preparation. Visualization can be combined with meditation and can actually be the same process. Many traditions do this on a regular basis.

Meditating for a while to calm the mind and body can help make the visualization exercise easier. I don't know if you have experience in meditation, but the teacher would more than likely help you through this.

A guided meditation mught help if your teacher has experience in this.

To just sit down and start visualizing can be very difficult! Meditation/visualization can be done standing, walking, sitting and even lying down. Good luck to you!!!!

Maybe the lesson here is that this lesson is not for you.

Question authority. The teacher may be wrong.

You know I never thought about it in those terms. I was just thinking that I had some block in regards to pregnancy and birth.

I did some meditation over a week ago and what I did see was me walking with a man, who was about 5'9, brown curly/wavy hair and a beard...and between him and I was a little girl with blond curly hair...I got the impression that she was our child or perhaps his and him and I were married so I was mommy number 2...which isn't a bad thing...it's always good to be surrounded by people who love you.

Who knows? Perhaps I had a vision of my future husband.

On iTunes there is a free audio series of lessons on meditation produced by "the meditation society of Australia." The lessons are good, but the Aussie accent is pretty thick! Worth a try, and the price is right.

Over the past year, I've received several emails promoting visualization programs, books, tapes, etc. My suspicion is that it has something to do with the success of "The Secret" which included visualization techniques.

"Visualization" is a misnomer because it really is a multi-sensory dry run of a situation or scenario. Athletes use it a lot. The more senses you can involve in your imaginary scenario, the more real and effective it will be.

If you find an effective resource, please share it with us!

In Sonoma County there are numerous meditation centers where you can learn to meditate from and with live people. Unless you can't, maybe you are in prison, you should go to a live teacher. Meditation is something that you do with your whole body, it is amplified when you meditate with other people.

Look in the Sunday Press Democrat or ask on Wacco for recommendations for meditation centet. :yinyang:
