Hello fellow Waccobb.net people. But one year later after having read almost every days daily digest, I can''t help but ask, Where are all the regular, everyday, non highly enlightened people out there?? Yes, I care about the environment, and what I eat, BUT most of the commentary I read is too far out there. Are there any in between people. One's that don't get massaged regularly, or shoot wheat grass juice on a daily basis. What about the catholics, taking the term very lightly, and the baby boomers born of very humble parents. I am from a hearty Italian background, nothing I can't do, fix, create, always happy, etc. Who needs such higher consciouses on a regular basis. I find it all weird. Enough of the super natural, of course everyone wants a cleaner environment, hello, yes let's all be green, but why all the voodoo?
Waccobb is wonderful, but are there any not so Waccos out there?

Hey, I'm another Deborah that agrees with you!! I'm as liberal as they come and lean pretty far to the left, but I've yet to observe the majority of waccos walk the walk. There is no other place like west county/Sebastopol and I love its eccentricities, but I often times notice judgment and hypocracy rather than openness and acceptance. Still, it's an enjoyable place to live and I've met some lovely folks here. You could definitely spend your life savings on workshops here getting "enlightened". I'm all for massage (Alas, I too am a massage therapist/instructor). Being Green is important too. I guess we're all looking for happiness in our own crazy ways.

I am a mixed breed.

Haven't you heard yet? (with a sarcastic tone)

its the 'new age' --- The Age of Aquarius!
I can definitely understand that it feels weird!

Everything is weird. Even normal is weird!
I am not sure i understand what normal is or even looks like.

I love diversity though
and Wacco's are amongst us!

Happy trackin' down whatcha' seeking !!

Hmmm. Not sure I get what you are looking for. I don't even like the term enlightened much. Sounds like a "holier than thou" adjective. I'm enlightened in certain ways, but I'm also endarkened in ways. Oops, not a word. Too bad. I like slopping around in the dark, messy stuff. Seems like it should be a word.

The only person I've ever spend any time with who people called "enlightened" was a real jerk who abused people who loved him. Weird. Spending 12 years in India studying under other enlightened beings doesn't make you into a nice guy. I could totally do without his kind of enlightenment.

So Deborah, say more. What are you hoping for?

I'm from a lower middle class family married to a lady from a similar background. We're doing better than our parents did in many ways. We're certainly more educated, eyes wider open, paying more attention to the larger issues of our day.

Tell us more about you.

Hmmmmm, I am normal for me.

Maybe the key is if you want to read about whats "normal" for you maybe start a thread on a topic thats "normal".

Cooking, photography whatever.

I love the Wacco talks because honestly other people discuss things that I consider but never get a chance to research then suddenly there is the topic and some pretty solid info.

Its like sharing a good secret/shortcut with a dear friend.

Deborah; Oh do come on now. I am about as shallow as one can get yet I choose to jump right in with both feet. I think if you did this and just wrote what was on your mind it would make for a way more entertaining aspect and really be fun for everyone. What would you have us talk about the cooking channel? If you have read the entire daily digest you would have read what I wrote about cooking in general. LOL!
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
If you want to talk about a particular subject you need to write about it and post it. You ever here the joke about the blonde that asked god to help here win the lottery cause she was having such a hard time, after losing her car, then her house then her family she asked out load why he wouldn’t help her. I a load stern voice god yells out “MEET ME HALF WAY, BUY A TICKET”!!!

This is a community bulletin board meant for writing enlightenment and entertainment. You can use it at free will you just have to apply yourself. Write it and they will read it and you yourself can be the middle! Reminds me of that one individual that was afraid to post because he was afraid of getting a response to his writings…

Glad to see I'm not the only one... I'm going to be moving to Sebastopol in the next couple of weeks. I can't help but flashback to my undergrad days in New Hampshire, and think perhaps Sebastopol is populated entirely by displaced Vermonters.

I'm a progressive who actively cares about the environment, but I also get a little worried about the large amounts of "vegan crystal womb shaman therapy" classes and 'the sky is falling' posts about toxic cellphone emf radiation (which we're all experiencing right now at our computers). Am I moving to a commune?

Please receive this with tongue firmly in cheek . No offense meant, just that I've made the same observation. I very much look forward to Sebastopol, but hope that at least a reasonably-sized progressive-minded minority drink (organic?) beer, prefer the scientific method to new-age, listen to music involving neither the ud nor the koto, and, dare I say, have an occasional steak.

Cheers!

Yea, hordes of folks are taking "life transforming" workshops here, not just once every ten years, but every weekend!

Either these workshops are being oversold or people are always in between life styles. :hmmm:

I must grant you, my evidence is somewhat indirect and not completely conclusive.

I see the announcements on Wacco, direct mailings, the Bohemian. They promise Nirvana along many different paths.

Then I see the workshop leaders in Whole Food Market. They appear well-fed and prosperous. I infer that their business does well.

Dear Zeno,
and here I thought that you where into honesty, truth and justice.
But it appears that you are only into the American Way.
not only did you alter my post before quoting it, but you are also inferring things without being acquainted. I felt you were inferring that the same people were going every weekend to workshops.
did you not?

And I am of Zeus, even though I am Stranger then You, so don't mangle my name! There is a Curse on That!

But, but err, but Zeno,
I asked you about your name a while back and you never responded.
I figured you weren't that attached to this disambiguation,

but maybe that is clue 1;
for if you are not from Xenos, but thou art from Zeus
for then, Zeno of Elea is thou true name and no longer a paradox ?
reductio ad absurdum at last!

HEY GOOD IDEA!

Warm winter type jackets, rain jacket, mittens and scarves were all things I added upon discovery. No one told me how cold it could get here. Coming from So Cal 70 was chilly and 50 at night here it can be 28 at night or less and 50 in the day time.

Rain Boots/barn boots - Imperative if you live on or near anything rural. Another surprise for me.

Jacket?? I’ve never owned a jacket, sweatshirts are plenty!!! Sandals are a must and shorts even In the rain…We also don’t use bongs, bongs are an LA thing and WE as a community have plenty of official art glass blowers that will make you a personalized pipe upon arrival. If your planning on bringing any of your own stash, don’t bother we will only stick our noses up at it due to the “if it wasn’t grown in Sonoma County it aint shit” attitude. Leave your George Forman grill home too; it really does not do justice for our homegrown veggies. Leave all cookbooks where there at, we have a more precise style of cooking you will be informed of when you get here also. Save plenty of money for our community of massage therapists. Our motto is one a week is all we ask. Try them all and you will be rewarded immensely. We also suggest a very small fuel efficient car that get over forty mile per gallon, if you car gets less than twenty you will never get laid! Think of it this way the more MPG your vehicle gets the more women that will be knocking down your door! If its veggie oil you wont be able to fight them off with a stick. There is sooo much more that you will need to know upon arrival, someone else can take the ball from here for I must get to my little recycle store in order to help save us all! Peace and see you soon!!!:2cents:

 At least Sebastopol doesn't lack humor. (If you'll forgive the double negative.)

Jacket?? I’ve never owned a jacket, sweatshirts are plenty!!! Sandals are a must and shorts even In the rain…

While I did grow up in Los Angeles, I managed my undergrad in New Hampshire in hoodies

Now I AM flashing back to New England. Sebastopol was once called "New Vermont" perhaps?

Leave your George Forman grill home too; it really does not do justice for our homegrown veggies. Leave all cookbooks where there at, we have a more precise style of cooking you will be informed of when you get here also.

My restaurant in occidental opens in late March; I'll see if I can manage to use the Wolf range rather than a George Forman grill, difficult as that may be. I'm actually looking forward to the local produce...

My wife might not appreciate that, nor would my 67 Mustang. However, I plan to do most of my around-town on my motorcycle (Triumph Scrambler), which does achieve over 40mpg.

What the heck is normal anyway. The West County "normal" makes me so damn happy I could dance a jig. When I found this place I said, I found a place where I am normal. Sooo maybe the midwest?? A "red" state, where normal is dont think too hard just work vote republican dont ask questions or go to seminars. And for heavens sake forget the consciousness thing. Except on sunday. Then, you can pretend to be spiritual in a church. Normal is just a term and it does shift. Everyone in the US, compared to Europe say, all of us are fruitcakes for allowing our disfunctional democracy to continue its bologna. Sooooo, what seems Normal today will be over the top tomorrow. In Mississippi Ku Klux Klan might be normal, at Harvard a high IQ might be normal. In Nazi Germany, killing Jews and discenters, normal. Hell, we are operating on a very fast moving curve. Normal changes. Next year having a black man as a president, or a woman, may be the norm. Having health insurance might be normal, everyday, for all of us. Lets hope for "normal" to be something that reflects positive intelligence forward movement, no cliches.

Lenny

Rest assured, what ever normal is, some won't let it rest there.
