Yippee!

I was in the community market 3 weeks ago and discovered a "made in the USA" product called: EVERT-FRESH GREEN BAGS and decided to try them out to see if they would work.

My produce has lasted for nearly 2 weeks +, using these re-usable bags! Even my flowers!!

I am not a distributer at all....but one can read more about them at:

They used to sell them even at Safeway about 12 years ago....they did seem to work and then they suddenly disappeared. Nice to know the CM still has them.

They also sell these Evert-Fresh green bags at Whole Foods and the Laguna Farm store.

they are awesome. They also keep cut flowers fresh for special occasions.

Cheers!

Whole Foods is definitely closer than Community Market..for me!

Though I have never seen them before at Wholy Foods....:hmmm:

do you know where in the store are they located?

Blessings!

Is this in addition to (or better than) keeping them refrigerated??

Hi Ms. Sara! hope all is well in your world!

your comment somehow managed to put a smile on my face...

* it is "in addition" to keeping them refrigerated.

I have tried the brown bag method. my granny used to do this too.. but it seemed to keep the veggies only a week .

I prefer making fresh juice , rather than my old method of using up all the bought produce and making a whole bunch of juice at one time.

So when I first tried out these bags, I was just simply amazed at how long and how fresh the produce still was!! 2+ weeks is something else!

For starters, you can see thru the Evertfresh bags so you can identify what's in the bag without opening it up.

Second, the paper bags speed up ripening and then rotting by concentrating the ethylene gas given off in the ripening process. The Evertfresh bags absorb this gas and also have a nubby texture that keeps moisture away from the contents, which also acts to slow down the degradation process.

The other device that works well is the airtight plastic containers with silver particles embedded in the plastic. They are yellow-orange due to the silver. Silver is a natural anti-bacterial that works well and does not cause antibacterial-resistant bacteria strains (it zaps them all with an ionic charge).

Most of the breakdown and rot is due to the natural release of ethylene gas, which gets trapped in a conventional bag. This can be mitigated in even better, less-expensive ways than these specific bags.

see: https://www.4theegg.com/index.html

There are several solutions out there- some which integrate absorption into the bag in the form of a zeolite coating; the better ones are simply refillable packets where zeolite crystal (dirt cheap at aquarium stores) can be placed in bags, and used indefinitely, rather than waiting for a coating to run out.
