I just read that Google is no longer safe, there are "fake" google pages, how can you tell???? Anyway, does anyone have some reliable information or what homepage do you use and store your log in information on and feel safe about it? Thank you everyone in advance.

I am so glad I came across this because I have felt for some time this mail is not secure. Please note the lock only appears on the one sign in sheet but once you are in your email it is open for anyone to look into and just tonight I guess I walked away before closing my email.

When I got back the screen was on a site (Google News) which I never view...I am going to go back to a secure mail program which I understand is thunderbird.

I love Google as my homepage...so clean and inviting....I was just thinking today it's like taking a ride in the country.....vs Yahoo/Msn.....like taking a ride with billboards all over the road.....

The Internet is always changing and people are always looking for ways of scamming (and spamming) others but I don't a power player like Google is risky for your basic biz.....there's a real expert web forum you could check, here is the link..........
https://www.webmaster-talk.com/

I think the Internet is a lot like taking a drive down 101, a hike in the hills or even just getting out of bed in the morning....if you think about all the stuff that can happen to you you'll just faint and crack your head open!

One little tricky that works on some fake pages.....I've seen it with eBay and one or two others is...........if you put your cursor over the part of the page that offers a hyperlink connection........it will reveal that it is an imposter..........ie............highlight the eBay connection and instead of ebay dot com etc.........it say something like "russianarecoming dot biz"

I have heard that it is now possible for completely fake pages to display somehow........it's really sad for all the people that may be older or less savvy for whatever reason to get slammed with some of this cybercrap.........but welcome to the New World.....play safe! (I personally always wear a condom when surfing the internet!)

I don't quite understand your concern. Or maybe you don't understand "homepage"?
The "homepage" is on YOUR computer, more specifically your browser, and links you directly to whatever you choose as your homepage. None can "come in" from the outside-internet to your computer and alter your home page. So if Google is set in your browser as your home page, you've nothing to worry about. Unless you are into worrying. But there's no positive energy in that.
You might consider changing from Internet Explorer to Mozilla Firefox for a browser. Or the Opera Browser, which is a truly great browser if you do not do business or exchange money on the internet. And getting all your addresses and email over to those other two systems is fairly easy.:2cents:

I agree but would add one more thing. If you are leaving your browser open and logged in - in a community situation -like a library - you have indeed allowed others into your personal mail. I have had my son end up logging me out of or into things even.

It's definitely possible for a program running on your computer (such as an installation routine) to change your home page. And I think it may be possible for a website to change your homepage, but I'm not sure.

In any case, you can tell where you are at any point by looking at the URL (address bar) in your browser. If you are at Google it should start with https://www.google.com/

Ever tried "Clusty the clustering search engine"?

Best homepage I ever had... very clean, sleek. Nice search results (clusters results by type)

www.clusty.com

good luck,
