This Sunday, February 3, LITE Initiatives is kicking-off the 2008 Car-Free Day campaign. Please see the events posting for our multi-faceted series which includes public transit field trips (this Sunday), walks, bike rides, presentations and bike classes.
Our goal is quite simple yet quite ambitious - to get thousands of Sebastopolians to drive less, to walk and bike more, carpool and take public transit. To help raise community awareness and set their own intention, we are asking folks to not drive at least one day per month, preferably the first Sunday. If you must drive that day, we ask you to plan your trip carefully, carpool and pick another day or partial day to be car-free. Churchgoers are invited to start their drive-less activities after services.
LITE is also seeking opportunities to brief local groups. Interested in reaching out to as many people as possible, we prefer to speak at or before regularly scheduled meetings. In addition a variety of generic newsletter articles are available which can be tailored for specific groups. Volunteers are needed to help talk to businesses, give presentations, research other drive-less programs, promote events and post signs right before the first weekend of every month. Trainings are by appointment. For additional information, please call LITE at 579-5811 or email carlite at sonic.net.
Thanks Portia
