Does anyone know a place that will take an older horse for the last year or so of his life? I have tried several rescues and they all say no or will not respond.

I can not afford to buy food for him and hate to euthanize just because I am poor.
I posted a lot of ads for him all last year and have managed to hang on this long but am trying again.

Spiker is a trooper, likes being with others once he gets to know them, needs to be in at night for eating his grain and for safety. and a night blanket in cold weather. He has partial vision and some neuro problems that do not seem to bother him. Vet says he is not in pain or suffering and can go on for awhile.
I have not even been able to vaccinate.

Thanks if you can help.

I know Lisa personally and she has done right by this horse even as times have become very hard for her. She really needs the help of her community right now.

Feed costs for Spiker are right about $100/month, as he is primarily on pelleted feeds due to no teeth.

Lisa, if his feed costs were covered, could you manage to continue keeping him at home, where he is comfortable?

Anyone else out there who would like to help? It would be very simple to set Lisa up a monthly round of pelleted feed for her old boy, who has very little teeth. He is very, very old and really truly probably has a year at best left in him.

Lisa, call me at home and we can talk further. 544-7584.

I can donate $50 right now. How about the rest of you? If 50 WACCO folks send just $1.00 we can help Lisa and her beloved horse.
Whadia say????

I exchanged emails with Lisa and she is very touched that people are willing to help. If she can get some help with Spiker's feed costs, she can keep going with him at her house.

Barbara, would you contact me? My email is [email protected]. What I propose is that you can either send or deliver a check made payable to the feed store (Friendly Feed), or else go to the feed store near Lisa's home and purchase some bagged pelleted feed and bring it to Lisa. Please call me at 544-7584 or email me at [email protected] and we can make arrangements.

I am donating some hay to Lisa and will help her find less expensive sources for hay and pelleted feeds for Spiker.

If anyone else can help, please contact me. This will be an ongoing effort as long as Spiker is alive. A donation of $9 buys a 50 pound bag of hay pellets!!

I have looked into this sweet old horse's eyes, and would be hard pressed to put him to sleep for want of $50/month in feed costs. He really does not have years left in him. Can we give him another good year with his mom, Lisa?
