Friends--

Considering your life in the New Year? You might consider joining our new project, The Mythic Kitchen: creating a performance ensemble for visionary puppet and mask theatre in the North Bay. We're holding more auditions and interviews this month, seeking performers, designers and craftspeople. This is the early stage of building something that will be absolutely unique in the North Bay.

The Mythic Kitchen is an outgrowth of The Independent Eye, now in our 34th season. It's now a ten-person ensemble meeting twice monthly in our Sebastopol studio since August. We've produced two short puppet pieces at house parties and are scheduled for a full-length piece, a restaging of our Descent of Inanna, in May. Intent is to stage one major production a year, many short pieces for informal venues, video versions for webcasting and dvd, and eventually a touring children's repertory. This is nontraditional puppet/mask theatre for adults, "experimental" but with a premium on story and accessibility, aiming for the highest level of artistry.

Visit <http: www.independenteye.org=""> for a sense of what we're all about. "Visionary" means focus on mythic & archetypal stories, but with a strong grounding in the real world. The serious stuff cuts close to the bone, and the comic is part of it because, well, that's life. Any questions, just email.

Performers:
We have an excellent cadre of actors, dancers, musicians & clowns. But everyone has time constraints, so we'd benefit from a larger membership. We ask two evenings per month for developmental experiment. If you're part of a show for public performance, there'd be rehearsal in addition to that. If you can't commit to more than two nights a month, your participation is still welcome, though we're also seeking people with time for actual performance. Schedule is set month by month, taking people's other obligations into account.

Ages 18 and up, good movement a requirement. We'd be pleased to have more 20 & 30-yr-olds. Performance experience is desirable, but experience with puppets isn't necessary. No fee to join, and no payment for your work, though when we do have paying performances, actors will receive a percentage of the revenue. Not looking for occasional drop-ins: this is a demanding artistic discipline.

To audition in January, just email us your interest and we'll invite you to participate in a regular work session with the ensemble. You can get the feel of it, and we can get a sense how you might fit. Possible dates are Tuesday, Jan. 22; Thursday, Jan. 24; and Tuesday, Jan. 29, all at 7:15. You need attend only one, but you must let us know in advance.

Designers/Technicians/Craftspeople:

This is a highly visual medium. Productions involve a high level of craftsmanship in puppet design, costuming, set & lighting, audio, and video projection. We are very desirous of collaborations with visual artists (whether or not you've done stage & costume design), and also volunteers in sewing, metalwork, construction, electrics, video & stage management.

No money, but no pressure on you to do more than you can commit to doing. And definitely a unique experience.

if interested, email me and we'll invite you to observe a work session and also arrange a time to talk about how you might fit into this picture.

Hope to hear from you.

Peace & joy--
