I am looking for a digital camera that will take great quality pictures and am wanting help. I don't know what kind of camera would be the best. I have experience with digital cameras so complex cameras are not a issue. What I really need to know is want brands are the best, and which stores to buy them from.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dominique

I got great deals at Beach city Cameras in Florida - better than Ebay. In fact if I remember right EBay refurbished was just about their new price - clsoe enough anyway on what I bought I skipped EBay

For me, the first question is what size camera do you want? A full size SLR ($$, but actually takes the picture when you press the button) an average size "point & shoot" or ultra compact? I tend towards the ultra compact, because if you don't have your camera with you it's not going to take very good shots! I would also look for a good size LCD screen to view you pix and that shows a simple description of your current settings.

I have two Kodaks one little quickie at 5megapixel and then a great one thats HUGE - a P880. I agree with Barry though I carry the small one more simply since it fits in my pocket. Definitely upgrade to a good memory card, I got mine at Wal-Mart (the card) and it was very reasonable.

Hi Dominique - I was a professional photog for many years. I've bought several cameras online over many years. What I learned -

The brand of camera is only of limited importance. Most major brands are quite similar in capability. Define what you want to do with the camera, and you'll get a close idea of what models to pursue. Are you going to want to take mainly "snapshots" which will rarely result in a print larger than 8"X10"? the larger the final print, the more expensive the camera system. Are you going to need to take a lot of photos at a time - say 200 - as for a wedding/event photog? will you be manipulating the digital image alot, or not? If you just want a dependable, easy-to-use single-lens camera, there are numerous choices. Buy the largest "mega-pixel" image capacity your budget will allow. The larger the image size the camera will make, the longer it will be valuable to you.

The main ingredient of any camera system, which will have the greatest impact on image quality, is the lens. If you want to do a wide range of photography, flowers, panoramics, portraits, action photos, low-light photography, etc. you should look at a system that will allow exchanging lenses, then buy the best lenses you can afford. I personally chose Nikon for 35mm digital, mainly because I had lenses from my film cameras that would work with my digital body. It's hard to go wrong with Nikon. Bad news is that Nikon is a fairly expensive camera system. Lots of other photogs prefer Canon.

I buy most camera equipment from either B&H Photo in New York, or used/re-manufacrued from eBay. B&H is the largest camera store in the world. they have the best, at as reasonable a price generally as you will find. Google them & find their website. Another plus is they don't charge sales tax! They are very reputable, used by the top pros world-wide.
