Hey Talkers!
Come check out our new Chat System! It's in beta test now.
I'll introduce to the main group next week with an online live tutorial tentatively scheduled for next Monday at 8pm.
You can see who's logged in to chat system on the bottom of the WaccoBB.net home page.
The icon to the left of the list will take you into chat, or your can click on this link:
Start Chatting! (https://www.waccobb.net/forums/misc.php?do=flashchat) :blahblah:
Once you're in the chat system you can see your fellow chatters profiles by clicking on their username on the user list on the left.
Let me know what you guys think! I'll add another link to the left menu so it will be available from all pages.
Happy Chatting!

I think I fixed to logout problems. Let me know if you still have trouble.
I removed the ability to create new rooms for now.
Have fun!

shellebelle, Everybody,
No Thanks. The internet sucks up enough of my time as it is. What with moderating quite a few local political action/organizing lists, where I am the primary forwarder of info (more's the pity), clearing my incoming email twice a day, I'm subscribed to many political lists that I don't moderate, where do you think I get the stuff to forward locally?, monitoring and engaging in the "great debates" here in the open forum of my sole online community (Tribe.com just never did it for me), responding to the occasional response to my responses to others responses, etc. I just can't justify "chatting" sucking up any of my time.
I prefer chatting face to face in pubs, bars, clubs and private homes. But nowadays my eyes don't seem to be able to stay open after 8:00 or 9:00 p.m., that seems to have gone by the wayside. I did used to use MSN chat with a couple of friends a few years ago. Our interest waned in lieu of phone calls and actual face to face encounters.
One of the main reasons I prefer email and posting to boards online, over phone/IM/chat is that I can do it at my convenience, it does not demand anyone elses time. Unless they choose to look and they can do that at their own convenience. The remove of time and distance creates a sense of security and a lessening of emotional risk. Plus it's already paid for, unlike long distance phone calls, gas to travel, etc.
The drawbacks are obvious. The flatness of text only. Lack of body language, facial expression, eye contact and movement, vocal inflection. Having to wait for a response, or not getting one. But as modern conveniences go I guess I'm in the old fogy email camp. I haven't graduated to texting and cell phone conversations as has been reported as all the rage among the yout.
While watching people in my rear view mirror gab away in their vehicles on my afternoon commute home, I wonder; What is it they have so much to blab about? Are they compensating for an inability to be by themselves? Why can't/won't they focus on the task at hand? (safe and unobnoxious driving) Are they unable to enjoy the flow of existence without having a constant emotional umbilicle to others. Have they been assimilated by the Borg?
But I guess that's just me, an antisocial curmudgeon used to my own company after years of bachelorhood. Originally not of my own choosing (Poverty is not an Aphrodesiac) but now that I'm marginally solvent, by a sort of ongoing, habitual, emotional inertia.
And I do not lack for friends to talk to. Nor do I lack the ability! Anyone reading my stuff on this board probably already has figured out that I could easily triumph in the "Chatty Kathy of the Universe Championships" (apologies to WL, SM, B and others for the hubristic assumptions of the preceeding quip!).
Oh yeah, I also like formulating my comments, looking them over for errors, adding syntactic clarity and full rendition of my intent (is that ever even possible?) before sending my opinions out into the amorphous, ineluctible and vaporous (or is it vapid?) world of what used to be called cyberspace.
But hey, all you chatters, chat away, hopefully while your teeth aren't chattering in the chilly chasms of our oh so cold brutal winters here in SonomaCo West (and nearby environs).
Thirteen years in Chi-town, Dude, now That's WINTER!!
Have fun!

LOL I hope that just because someone doesn't chat doesn't mark them as non conversationalists to those who do. Everyone has things they choose to do and choose not to do - there should be no harm no foul to your choice for you. But also realize if someone says I don't see you on chat it may not be a negative (despite how it may come out) as much as an invitation and even possibly a request. You never know who might want to talk to you or what forum is their comfort.
So remember we are all different one persons forum and interests may not be another's but they are all important and should be enjoyed.
Stay comfortable! Enjoy! Contrast and diversity - they are good things ya know!

There seems to be a problem with with the chat system. I'm not sure what's wrong. :hmmm: So the system is going to be offline for a while until I find someone to help me. Oh well. It will be back...
