Hello all, we are Eleanor and Andre, a young couple new to Sebastopol in desperate search for community (though it very well could be right under our noses).

We want to start a dialogue about living together, water, and getting land. We'd like to get the whole city of Sebastopol talking, but we can start small!

In the short time we've lived here, just a couple of months now, it seems everyone we meet is talking about community/living together/growing food/dreams of land, and what the hell are we going to do when peak oil hits us?

We know that the age of individuality is coming to an end.

We're not gonna' pull this off unless we get together. We need a group willing to commit to each other and get real. We do not envision this as a sort of utopia and are willing to fight and work hard. We value group work with all its messiness and the sense of spirit and connectedness that comes from all the triumphant steps and awkward mis-steps.

We have no idea where this might lead, but we think that getting together will expose resources and creativity otherwise unavailable to each of us alone. (Many hands make light work).

Being radical is not out of the question.

All ages.

Please join us at our home for talk and tea.
Sunday, November 11th, 5pm until...
Call or write us so you know where to come and we know you're coming.
#829-2001. We're near Whole Foods.
Bring your friends and family. ('Cause really we just want to make friends)

Things we are into collectively, though Andre rarely wears red lipstick:
Indigenous cultures, mason jars, cast iron skillets, hanging the laundry out to dry on the line, Derrick Jensen, goats, dress up, playing with kids, exploring the great outdoors, dance parties in the kitchen to Arcade Fire, urban harvesting, fire, Scott Peck's work, the country of Cuba, red lipstick, scrambled eggs and avocado, writing, Charles Bukowski, Winona LaDuke's speech at Bioneers, leaving the economy, making out, and trying to live in this mad mad world without being too depressed.

Thank you for reading.

Do you mind guests interested in attending to discuss community living, even if they're not currently seeking new living arrangements? I currently have a great situation in a small 3-bedroom house with my boyfriend and two other couples (plus the cat) and although we have all talked sort of theoretically about leaving Santa Rosa and looking for land in Sebastopol (two of our clan here used to live there and loved it), there are no actual plans in place at this time.
However, I'm in total agreement with you guys on all of this, and curious to hear what kind of ideas others have. I have lived in community several times in the past and think it's the way to go. Would love to throw some ideas around although I don't think I'd be able to relocate right now. I also understand you are probably looking more for people who are ready to commit, which is definitely important.

I couldn't make your get-together, but hope you will do it again! And are you going to be at the Social/potluck/fundraiser this Wednesday evening?

Sara S.
