Presently water rates in Occidental apparently have a high flat fee and a rather low rate for use. This is favorable for large users such as restaurants, but unfavorable for households. It also does not encourage conservation.
Elections are coming up for the Occidental Services District who sets these rates. What do you think are fair rates for Occidental that are in the general interests?

Occidental election being contested
OCCIDENTAL - The Occidental Services District is holding a “Meet and Greet,” the candidates night which is scheduled to be held at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 22, at the Occidental Fire Station, next to the Post Office on Bohemian Highway just north of downtown.
Five candidates are running for three opens seats and include incumbents Ray Lunardi and Coy Brown, and Ken Cohan who was appointed two months to be on the board by the board but whose seat is nonetheless open.
The others running for an open seat in the Nov. 6 elections include Margaret Gerner, an environmentalist, and Jeff Tweddale, a self-employed businessman.
Mary Szecsey, president of the Community Council and Director of the Occidental Area Health Center will moderate.
Issues include a debate over equitable water rates and over whether or not there is a conflict between being on the board and a member of the volunteer fire department it oversees. Currently four of the five members are firefighters.
