Does anyone know if I can safely uninstall and then reinstall MS OUTLOOK 2002. I cannot get into mine for some reason and need to get it for a client.

YOUR HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED.

This is assuming you are using MS Windows XP and also have the software disk with Outlook. First, click on Start, then Control Panel, then Install and Uninstall Programs. From the list, select the Outlook and select delete. Once it has finished, you may have to re-start your computer (I don't quite remember), so if you do, be sure you have closed all your open programs first, then go back and shut down your system - if it asks you to. Then, you can install your Outlook program from your disk. You have to uninstall from this place on your control panel - and it should work fine. If I am wrong, I am sure someone will correct me. Good luck! By the way, your files attached to your old outlook program that you uninstall will be lost when you uninstall- so you may want to do a backup first. I'm sure there is someone here more tech-abled that can add to what I've written.

I think it would make more sense to choose the "Change" button instead of "Delete." From there, one may choose "repair or reinstall," which is more to the point. See if a repair installation works. If not, it may be time to get someone who knows there way around Windows to provide a proper diagnosis and clean up whatever is behind the problem, the two most likely things being garbage in the registry or some damage on the hard disk.

If you're using Windows XP, I'd first try the "Restore" function. Go to the lower left hand corner of the screen.
Click "Start" . . then
"Programs" . . then
"Accessories" . . then
"System Tools" . . then
"System Restore"

Then pick a Restore date in the past, some time before your MS Outlook program started misbehaving, and follow the prompts. This procedure has saved me a lot of work -- many times. By the way, "Restore" will not delete any saved messages. It just restores the executable files.

If you have installed any programs in between the time of the restore point and the current date, you'll have to reinstall them after you do the restore. Just to be safe, I'd back up any data files in such programs.
