At first I was encouraged by the prospect of the end of the Maxxam/Pacific Lumber destruction of Humboldt County timberlands through bankruptcy. Then Maxxam set up a storefront office in Corpus Christi, TX so a sympathetic bankruptcy hearing would be based there instead of in unfriendly Northern California.

Now this new plan to overvalue assets and sell off timberland for estate development (and sell off a few isolated parcels of old growth for conservation purposes). There's an article in the Eureka Times Standard today where the County supervisors are voicing their concern over these plans.

Charles Hurwitz has friends in high places being a Texan so we can expect him to get most of what he wants. So much energy from so many otherwise creative people goes into developing these schemes to exploit others for the gain of the few. Same for the junk bond mania that brought PL to Hurwitz and the illegal tax shelter frenzy of current times.

Thanks to EPIC for monitoring this situation and hopefully throwing a few litigation wrenches into Hurwitz's malevolent scheming.
