Maggie has been saved, she was adopted on Tuesday as were the two kittens I talked about in these posts. Thank you to whoever adopted them. My heart is lighter knowing that taking them to the shelter after they were abandoned resulted in new and better lives for them. Maggie is a truly special cat personality. I'm also keeping track of Callie, the first abandoned cat I brought to the shelter who was staying in a burned out house next to her old home with a brand new litter of kittens. She's still in a foster home with her babies. She has a truly incredible personality. She still trusts and loves people, likes children, lives well with other cats and nothing seems to unduly upset her. Her first reaction upon arriving at the shelter was pretty much: "Wow, lots of people to pet me, purrpurr" The workers at the shelter were surprised by her incredible good nature and she had a foster before we had finished the paper work.

I'm still encouraging all of you to go to the shelter if there is room in your heart and home for a nice cat. Take a look at the adoptable cats on the site and you'll find about a third of them are black or mainly black. Did you know black animals are the last to get adopted? Some of these black cats and kittens are incredibly beautiful. There is a kitten named Samantha, she's a true long haired beauty and really wants a home. There's a good number of black older kittens, some incredibly friendly, as well as many black and mainly black adults. After confirming my poor Scooter had been killed I went to the shelter and came home with a mainly black two year old cat who has turned out to be a total love. Someone either abandoned him, or didn't try to find him as his markings are so unusual he is easy to identify. And, yes, even though indoor he is micro-chipped, collared and tagged. Adult cats have a harder time getting adopted. The reason I did not adopt Maggie myself at that point is that I could not bring her back to her old neighborhood and be able to turn her into an indoor cat.

If anyone is looking for a small dog, the shelter has a few of them, which is unusual. When I was looking to adopt a dog, I wanted a small one and they were impossible to find. I was looking for a small short coated dog and ended up with a large collie/shepherd/husky mix of some kind. He's a love, but requires lots of brushing.

That's great news, and you should give yourself credit for saving Maggie and the kittens. You took them to the shelter, otherwise they wouldn't have had an opportunity to find a home.

As for black cats, they are well known among cat people as having very laid back and loving personalities, of course some individuals vary, but in general they make wonderful companions.

God bless you for your kindness Christine.
