I wrote this whimsical poem from the point of view of a total narcissist, a person completely absorbed with himself who thinks he's in love.
I Wouldn't Mind
I wouldn't mind . . . your infatuation.
I wouldn't mind . . . affection saturation.
If all you gave was but an imitation,
Why, I still wouldn't mind.
I wouldn't mind . . . if you really loved me.
I wouldn't mind . . . if you never shoved me
To let you place a soul above me,
Why, no, I wouldn't mind.
I wouldn't mind . . . a lifetime of attention,
And if I were your life's intention
Not many gripes I'd ever mention
'Cause then I wouldn't mind.
I wouldn't mind . . . if all your love you shared.
And if you told me that you cared,
I know that we were nicely paired
And then I wouldn't mind.
So can we now get on with it?
Forget the pro and con of it?
Enjoy the me and Ron* of it?
I'd promise not to mind.
