Gee, most or all plants and animals communicate with each other, both within and outside of their species, through external chemical signals. Perhaps consciousness on any level wouldn't exist without this system. I agree that ants have a pretty limited consciousness when compared to a whale or a chimp, but that doesn't mean they have none or that they don't share consciousness. It's unlikely anything could be proved along these lines.
-Jeff
Jeff, let us not forget that scientist are limited by their own and our limitations as a whole. just because ants have been observed to use chemicals signals as a way to communicate, that doesn't mean that is the only way they can communicate,
if aliens visited here and concluded that humans only communicate via cellphones, would that be accurate?
how come when something rotten is laying in the street, flies are all over it, but seconds before that, not a single one in sight

Good point.
I can work out in the yard for an hour without being bothered. Once one single mosquito finds me, within another minute there will be ten or more. Don't know how they know.

Mosquitos respond to the infrared your body is giving off as well as the carbon dioxide you are exhaling, and, they don't respond well in full sunlight or when it's windy or when it's very cool. I'm guessing when conditions are favorable, mosquitos in range respond, naturally one of them has to get there first.

Ah well, Jeff, it was a good shot! Personally, I liked your explaination better. After all, when I get a bug in my computer, I pray to the Goddess Technologia for assistance.:heart::thumbsup:

Response:
You're quite right about mosquitos. As for house flies and the like, they have an extremely sophisticated array of chemical sensors. When they detect a chemical indicating the presence of food, they turn and fly into the wind following the odor plume being emitted by the food. `Of course, it takes other sensory equipment to know when it's flying into the wind.

Do you think their "chemical sensors" can penetrate through those condoms roble is selling in post #59? Hey roble? Got any of those condoms left or did you sell all of them to god?

oh I guess I must have more infrared in my aura than others. they will ALWAYS find me, and leave others alone.
evn whether it is windy or cool or daytime

This is the theory of operation employed by mosquito "magnets" and similar contraptions. If those were the only methods employed by mosquitos, those machines would work. I've read the reviews and, sadly, they don't or I would buy one.
I am a mosquito magnet. Once one finds me, the rest are close behind, even if I've gone an hour without a single bite. There's more to it than carbon dioxide. If they were attracted to CO2 they would dive bomb a glass of soda or beer. They don't. If they were attracted to infra red (that's heat) they'd be more attracted to incandescent bulbs than to fluorescent and they aren't. The actually go for ultraviolet. Just hang up one of those bug zappers and watch the fun. They actually do work.
So, nice try Clancy. I think mosquitos employ Cosmic Consciousness and respond to disturbances in The Force.
Perhaps I need a mosquito excorsist.

Jeff, if you ever find a good mosquito exorcist, please let me know! I have the same problem you do. But I always had the feeling that mosquitoes are attracted to the smell of blood and that MY blood was especially attractive to them. I don't like being a walking blood bank to feed the wildlife while I'm outdoors and being a moving target so I try to use some disgusting mosquito repellent. Don't get me wrong, I support wildlife and the environment very much but I don't want to get sucked dry and become a vampire victim.

Mosquitoes are among the most-studied insects because of their immense medical and economic importance. A great deal is known about many facets of their biology, including attraction to hosts. Co2 and heat (but not infrared per se) are among the most important attractants, but there are others (e.g., moisture, lactic acid, octenol). Some chemicals (or heat) are attractive only in combination with other attractants, or at least gain potency in combination, which explains why mosquitoes are not attracted to soda cans or incandescent lights.
Unfortunately, bug zappers, powered by uv lights, are not very effective against mosquitoes and may actually draw more mosquitoes from the surrounding area.

Actually, I have studied under the great Atlantean channeler, Don Juan Di Bozo, and I am now a Master Mosquito Manipulator myself.
I'll be teaching seminars on the Four Great Truths of Mosquito Manipulation as taken from the Sacred Texts channeled by the great Don Juan. Remember, they are Sacred.
You will learn how to Manipulate these little critters and will actually live longer, get younger, earn more money and lose weight (or gain weight if you're a body builder) all for the price of $695 for a one weekend seminar.
Aren't YOU worth the investment?
Call 1-800- GET- LAID for more information.

PS. All proceeds go to the Jeff/Braggi early retirement fund.
PPS. Gods, stop me before I post again! I'm really losing it.

hey Barry,
if I were to write about how god punishes the sinners with Atheist, would you move that one out of here and back into; God does not exist v. "I can't know" (Atheism v. Agnosticism) or would that be a new thread that you start for me?
I was in the process of doing that when your post came in! Done!
