Over a period of 3 weeks I have taken 14 cats to the shelter. I truly admire and respect the people who volunteer to foster pets to be put up for adoption. These animals were abandoned (see my previous post "Callie did not deserve to be abandoned") and I did everything to make them more adoptable. None of them were feral, but most had lost their general trust of humans. Making friends over a bowl of cat food did work well. We made friends and then I stuffed them into carriers and took them to the shelter. Granted, they were less skinny and a lot friendlier, but it finally took its emotional toll on me....I was near tears on this last trip....I truly resent that I had to clean up after someone else's irresponsibility, I feel sorry for the two children who were forced to abandon their pets, and I feel sad for these poor cats. I grew to care about them, absolutely could not keep any of them and had to make the decision their original owners should have made. This family moved into the neighborhood a little over a year ago with 3 or 4 cats. They did find homes for some of the kittens born over that year and still ended up with 17. PLEASE NEUTER YOUR PETS, PLEASE UNDERSTAND DOMESTIC CATS DO NOT DO WELL ON THEIR OWN. WHEN I MANAGED TO GET CLOSE TO THEM AND FEED THEM, THEY WERE ALL HALF STARVED. THEY ALL STAYED FOR AT LEAST WEEK AT THEIR OLD HOUSE WAITING FOR THEIR HUMANS TO COME GET THEM. DO NOT ABANDON CATS ASSUMING OTHER PEOPLE WILL TAKE CARE OF THEM OR THAT THEY WILL BE FINE IN THE WILD. PLEASE GO TO THE SONOMA COUNTY SHELTER AND ADOPT A CAT OR KITTEN.....YOU MAY JUST TAKE HOME ONE OF MY FRIENDS.

Bless you, Christine, on behalf of all those cats, for making that decision.

Thank you for the support. I know I made the right decision, but......This may be ending on a nice up note; there was one kitten left I couldn't catch. She's becoming cuddly and I found her a home with a responsible person who will spay her, work with her and love her.
