Does anyone know how to stop pop-ups from popping up all the time while I am working on the computer?

I have tried to figure it out, but they just seem to have a mind of their own?

Thanks - juliana

Julia,

Most security software can stop pop-ups. What are you using for anti-virus?

I would go with buy a Mac, but then I'm one of those. :-)

Most web browsers have a popup blocker built into one of the menus or hidden in the "Preferences" settings. Start looking around and see if you can find one.

If you post the kind of browser you are using (such as: Internet Explorer, or Firefox) someone who uses and is familiar with that browser should be able to guide you if you get stuck.

You shouldn't need to invoke "security" software. If that's called for, switch browsers to one that supports popup blocking such as Safari or Firefox.

Good luck and don't be afraid to ask for more help if you get stuck.

This is one way to easily solve your problem. I recommend the Firefox browser, for Windows - excellent built-in default pop-up blockers. You can find it at:

https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/

This an all-around excellent "open-source" program public built & maintained.

On the same page they also offer free open source programs for

Email - "Thunderbird"

PIM - "Sunbird" Personal information manager/calendar/address book, etc.

They're all free, and maintained upgraded by a community of thousands of programmers, all over the world.

Hi Juliana

Clancy is correct, to a point. I have a MAC, and set my preferences in the browser to block pop-ups; you do need anti-virus software if you are using Windows.

Although my preferences are set, some pop-ups get through, but only the most insidious, stubborn ones. I don't know enough to say why.

Good luck!
