Hi All,
I'm trying to negotiate a migration of a website. This is my first experience with this. The site is a wordpress blog and we could do a full export from one server and import to another server. There would be no changes to the website, design etc. Just import and test that everything is working fine.

Anyone have a guess or approximate number of hours that would take?

Many thanks for any info, help etc.

Suzanne

hi Suzanne,
if we all could see the website that would help. it shouldn't take that long. if you have all the files on your computer, then you sign up for a new
server and upload them all. if not then you have to download them all off your old server first.

cheers,
crystal

Crystal,
Thank you for your response. The site is disabled for repairs. I'll post the url when the site is reinstated.

Cheers,
Suzanne

My two cents:

1st, I'm not familiar with Wordpress, but if I remember right, I believe it is a blogging script.

I assume you're moving not only from one server to another, but to another ISP.

If you're going to keep the same domain name, it needs to be migrated to the new ISP's url. Most ISP's will do this for you for a minimal cost. It takes a couple of days.

Your Wordpress script configuration file will need to be pointed to the location of the database & scripting programs on the new server. Remember to back up your Wordpress files before you transfer!
Also a good time to update your script(s) to the latest version.

Then it's just a matter of transferring the actual website files/directories from one server to the other. This is a drag & drop operation that would vary depending on the connection speed and the size of your files.

Your website maintenance person should be able to do all this fairly easily within a morning or an afternoon.

Have fun!
