Dear Nandi;
We are in Rohnert Park and we are Aloha Lani Lomi Heavenly Massage. :Yinyangv:
We feel that to be a successfull Massage Therapist you first need atleast 500 hours of training. We are looking for an office to share with another person in this area. Within the Sonoma County you need no license, but Santa Rosa City needs finger prints and background check.
I wonder if they fingerprint Doctors or Nurses?:hmmm:?
Good luck and please call us if anyone needs a massage tutor.
Santa Jim has over 900 hours of training from National Holistic Institute, Mendocino Healing Arts, and Began his training Harbin Hot Springs School of Massage.:):

N. Blue is a pioneer in massage begining with Acadia Massage School in Seattle Washington later named Seattle Massage school. The first 1500 hr. Members of the Calistoga Chamber of commerce we are involved with every faze of giving quality massage to people who need it. We also ran an Inn in Calistoga from 1995 through 1999.
We then spent 2 years On the Big Island of Hawaii where we learned Lomi Lomi and the Aloha if the Islands! May the breath of the Goddess touch you!

Actually, Doctors and Nurses are fingerprinted by the state. EMT's and Paramedics too.

So you're not being singled out after all.:thumbsup:

Credentialed Teachers (including 30 Day Emergency Credentialed Substitute Teachers) are fingerprinted by the state as well. We also have to go through criminal background checks (which are part of the fingerprinting process) before getting our credential.

In the last four years, due to various changes in jobs, some within the same school district, I've been fingerprinted at least four times that I can remember.

Each time cost either me, or my "new" employer, about $65 - $85.

I began to joke that somebody in a position of power has a cousin or niece/nephew who has the franchise on fingerprinting for the state!

In my previous life as a GM and owner of a private tennis and swim club, I had a massage "professional" ask to work at my facility stating he had been the massuse to the "stars" (Marilyn, etc...) in Hollywood in his earlier days. He just didn't seem quite right, and I turned him down. Another club hired him. A few months later, there was a headline in the newspaper that a club member sued the club because this guy had attempted to molest her while she was on the table. The member won a $68,000 lawsuit against the club. There were no regulations or methods for checking the therapists at the time.

I am a Notary, and we get fingerprinted and background checked before being granted our commission. I'm not touching anyone's body, either. There are other reasons (prevent fraud) for Notaries being fingerprinted, but if we can go through it, what's the problem? It's for your client's protection, and you should be supporting that. I would prefer to go to a therapist that I know doesn't have an unsavory past, thank you very much. I worked a Federal job and had a Federal background check done on me by the FBI, and I cleared. It should assure my clients that I'm on the up and up and looking out for THEIR best interests. If you have nothing to hide, I say it's a GOOD thing. Just my two cents. Oh yeah, and if you do have something to hide, I think it's an even BETTER thiing!
