I have been having the hardest time finding a puppy. I would love to adopt an adolescent or adult dog, but I also have cats and cannot take the risk on an older dog. I am looking for a puppy between 8-10 weeks old, who will grow to be quite large, with short hair. A great dane, doberman, or masstiff crossed with something is ideal. I have excellent references and price is not much of an issue. I am not interested in pit bulls, rottweilers, akitas, chows, or any other known dog-agressive breeds as I have a 13 year old dane mix who is wonderful. I have met a number of great pit bulls but I cannot take on the liability that comes with the breed. Please do not refer me to shelters and rescues, I am constantly looking at all possiblities and I am already searching via those avenues. I live in a great area with a totally fenced in yard and have landlord approval, home inspections are welcomed if needed. If anyone knows of any young, large, shorthaired, mixed breed pups, let me know.

If you want to find a puppy and are not having results from rescue groups, then your alternative is a responsible breeder who will require that you jump thru hoops and sign a contract. On the plus side, you will know your puppy's parents and their temperament and health history. Please do not adopt from anything but a certified breed rescue group/shelter (where temperament testing is done) or a responsible, caring and strict breeder. You may also want to research a bit more the health issues and challenges of, for instance, mastiff crosses and also which breeds tend to get along well with cats and other dogs. For example, in my experience there is quite a difference in personality, temperment and so forth between the breeds you prefer. Good luck!

I've been looking for a dog too and would like a puppy, almost any kind, but I don't want to deal with shelters, etc. and prefer a mutt because all the mutts I've had have had brilliant personalities and were wonderful to have as part of my family. I'd like a female dog so that if she is great, she can have puppies. Does anyone know anyone who's dog is pregnant and going to have puppies anytime soon? I'd prefer a big black dog, but again, anyone would probably be fine. I need a dog to walk with me - one that'll make me get out of the house. We have a big yard and a welcoming family.

Any help greatly appreciated.
