Kangaroos at Grave Risk!
Dear Friend,
https://img.getactivehub.com/an2/custom_images/humane/alert_HSLF_takeaction.jpg (https://community.hsus.org/campaign/CA_2007_kangaroo4/dnng8b24dniit7?)A dangerous bill in California (S.B. 880) that would overturn the current ban on the sale of kangaroo parts is only one step away from passing the legislature! Currently, a state law bans the sale of all kangaroo parts. It was enacted so that Californians would not unwittingly contribute to the killing of kangaroos in Australia, including the killing of endangered species and the cruel clubbing of baby kangaroos ripped from their mothers' pouches.
S.B. 880, which would allow the sale of kangaroo parts and promote the trade in kangaroo skins, has already passed the California Senate and has cleared an Assembly committee. We need your help to stop it from passing the full Assembly (https://community.hsus.org/campaign/CA_2007_kangaroo4/dnng8b24dniit7?) and to convince Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to veto it if it does pass. Even if you have taken action on this issue before, please take just a moment to contact your legislators again today! A humane law we all worked hard to pass is now very much at risk.
TAKE ACTION
Please call your state assembly member today and urge opposition to S.B. 880, which would allow kangaroo skins to be sold in California. Click here (https://community.hsus.org/ct/Ap1A7zE1GXUN/) to look up your state assembly member and the phone number.
Then, call Governor Schwarzenegger at (916) 445-2841 and let him know that you oppose the sale of kangaroo parts in California and want him to veto this bill if it does pass the legislature.
Making a call is easy. A staff member will take your message and pass it along to your legislator. To your assembly member, you can say:
"Hello. My name is [your name] and I am calling from [your town] to urge [your assembly member's name] to oppose S.B. 880, which would permit the import of kangaroo skins into California. Such import is inhumane and unnecessary, and contributes to the killing of endangered species. Thank you."
To Governor Schwarzenegger, you can say:
"Hello. My name is [your name] and I am calling from [your town]. I would like Governor Schwarzenegger to know that I oppose S.B. 880, which would permit the import of kangaroo skins into California. Such import is inhumane and unnecessary, and contributes to the killing of endangered species. If this bill passes the state Assembly, I strongly urge him to veto it. Thank you."
After you make your call, send a follow-up email (https://community.hsus.org/campaign/CA_2007_kangaroo4/dnng8b24dniit7?) to reiterate your opposition to this legislation.
Finally, please also tell your friends and family (https://community.hsus.org/campaign/CA_2007_kangaroo4/forward/dnng8b24dniit7?) in California right away about this issue and what they can do to help.
Thank you for taking action on this important legislation, and for all you do for animals!
Sincerely,
