hi,
i'm hoping someone out there can help me figure out what to do with a kawai digital piano 360, and a large collection of fake books. i'd like to sell them but have no idea how much they are worth, and i think fake books are now illegal, they were my mother's from way back when.
any feedback would be deeply appreciated.
thanks!
Lee

What do you mean "fake books" ... hollow books for hiding things in?

And if that's what these "fake books" are, then why would they be illegal?

i don't know much about them, but as i understand it, they are brief synopis of popular songs all bound together in a loose leaf notebook. they allow professional musicians to learn/play all kinds of songs without buying each individual sheet - hence they are/were illegal as they avoiding paying royalties to the copywrite holder...at least i think that's the story.

Most "Fake Books" aren't illegal. You can go to this website to learn more:
https://www.seventhstring.co.uk/fbindex.html
Scroll down below the titles for explanatory text. You can check there to see if yours are illegal, although, I doubt the site is complete. There are links to sites that sell "legal" Fake Books, so follow the links to find the value. Or better yet, go to ebay and search on some of the titles you have or just on "Fake Books" and see what comes up. ebay is the true source on the price of used items these days. You can check the price on that piano too. Be sure to search completed auctions on the piano to see what they actually sold for.
Many Fake Books were self published by the authors themselves or were made from music that wasn't copyrighted, much as someone here might post a poem they wrote and wish to share.
Good luck. I hope you find you're sitting on treasures.
