Dear Community,
I thought you might want to know the results of our benefit for survivors of the recent hurricanes on the Gulf Coast
The music was wonderful. Bruce cooked jambalaya. The parade around the courtyard following the Fourth Street New Orleans Jazz Band was the high point at around 5:50 p.m.
We raised $1,055.85 for various organization responding to the damage from Katrina and Rita. Most of the cash raised came from asking a dollar donation for a string of Mardi Gras beads.
DJ Mama got us ready starting at noon. Love Choir really kept the party going at 1:00 p.m. Ari and Chris did sound and stage managing. I tried to grade papers while collecting money and displaying donor options about various regional Gulf Coast organizations. The music was wonderful, the mood joyous in spite of the cause and the good times kept on going!
Thank you to DJ Mama (Susan!), Love Choir (Jim Corbett et al!), Black Bird Stitches (Kirana Peyton!!), Shari & The Deeper Rythm, Trailer Park Rangers (Dave and Rick unplugged!) and The Fourth Street New Orleans Jazz Band (Ron Dubin!). Thank you to Bruce, Jeffrey, Ivy, Raven, Chris, Ari, Susan, Tony, Ron, Molly, Sara, Suze and everyone else who made it possible!
And thank you to everyone who attended or wanted to attend but couldn't. If anyone is interested in my word file of good organizations to give your money to, reply privately and I'll send it as an attachment.
Huzzah! Whoohoo!! Hooray!!!
Miles Mendenhall
