Does anyone have a humane trap for a small animal (possum)? I think there is one called Have-a-Heart or similar. I seem to have one or more possums living in my house, and I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that we cannot share the same space. Yes I know that transporting them to another neighborhood will give them little chance of surviving, but having searched my conscience I cannot think of an alternative.

I would be most grateful for a few days loan of a suitable trap. Thanks.

Patrick,
We had possums under the house and rented a trap from a feed store. Took her out to the country for what we thought was a new life.
A few days later we heard sounds in our bath room wall. We had removed the mother and had 6 baby's behind the sheet rock!
We called the animal rescue who told us not to try to remove them yourself but to call them to do it. It is illegal too. We had to cut a hole in the wall to reach the babies, who were alright but motherless due to us do gooders.
Animal rescue took the babies and released them when they were old enough.
good luck.

THANKS
Patric and Linda for your postings on this topic;
I would like to borrow a COON sized trap myself, some one in our neighborhood has been feeding coons because there is a distinct
overpopulation I saw at least eight one night, mostly large adults they will tear out the rubber moldings around the windows of my car if they smell a candy wrapper in there and I leave the window open 1 " ,they wreck havoc on my compost bins and steal my worms.
People don't realize that it is no favor to wild animals to feed them human foodwaste,it disrupts their normal feeding cycles and natural
controls on their population. A resort on the coast did that with restaurant scraps for years, the had over forty fat unhealthy coons that hung around and terrorized all nearby neighbors.Finally Fish and Game stepped in and
offered to fine them if they did not cease the practice, then they had to trap and distribute the animals.So I will call animal rescue, rather than just dropping them off bye the tweakers place down the road.
By the way,Raccons are cute,and extremly dangerous at close range,never attempt to pick up even baby ones, and don't think kitty or your dog will best them in a fight.
Nico
