On Beltane Eve, it gives me great pleasure to announce my adoption of a brother. He'll turn five on July 25 of this year; i've arbitrarily given him Red Emma's (Emma Goldman's) birthday because he's a red tabby. The womon who'd originally adopted him felt unable to care for him, so i took him in to foster. Circumstances changed for the womon who was to adopt him, and he and i have grown to love each other, so i'm adopting him.
The first womon named him "Cupcake," and it's true he's deliciously sweet, as well as soft and nicely rounded.
The name seems a bit cutesy for my taste, though, and i'm thinking of changing his name to one he'd still recognize, "Uptake," as in "swift on the..." because he's smart. The thing is, so far i'm getting more "Oh, how cute!" responses to "Uptake" and its explanation than i ever did to "Cupcake." Thoughts? I don't want humans to laugh when i introduce him.
