Need Advice and Resources on Traumatic Brain Injury.

I am hoping the Wacco community might be able to help find some resources or offer advice on Traumatic Brain Injury.

In August my friends husband was involved in an auto accident that resoluted in a loss of oxygen and thus now suffers from Traumatic Brain Injury. After the accident, he spent time in some great treatment and rehab centers devoted to helping brain injuries but now that he is home the family needs additonal help and care in continuing to help him.

I am hoping I can get some resources, names, advice, information on the following:
- resources, treatment options for those with brain injuries and thier families including perhaps names of facilities and doctors
- people. We are looking for caregaivers. At this point I am not sure if the family is seeking live in or full time help. I am just trying to gather information as to where to go to find a qualified care giver. What they are looking for is some one who has experience with demensia patients or brain injuries. Ideally, this person will also have a car and excellent driving record to take him to treatments.
- other helpful resources, websites or information I can pass along.

SRJC in the past had resources for adults with brain injury. There is a home in santa Rosa called St.Belden's for people with brain injury.

My wife suffered a TBI a couple of years ago. It has been a real struggle for our family. I have spent a lot of time and energy tracking down information which I would be glad to share with your friends. In fact it would be probably be very good for me to share this with someone who is going through what I have gone through. The resources they will need partly depend on the severity of the injury. Marji, they might want to look in to cranio-sacral therapy. There's lot of info available at www.upledger.com (https://www.upledger.com) , the organization I studied with. If they want a practitioner in the area, they could look on the site, and there are listings of practitioners by area, I believe. They have a clinic in florida, where I believe they do amazing things, but there are people all over the world doing this work, too. The trainings they give are excellent.

There is a very good osteopath who does cranial work, in San Francisco, who helped my son with symptoms of a traumatic birth, when he was an infant. (he's 18 now, but I imagine that she has gotten better over the years. She is still in practice; I checked the other day.. she does cranial work and has a LOT of experience. Her name is Theresa Hong, D.O., and her number is 415-673-2771, she's at 2041 Polk St. in S.F.

Imagine there are people in Sonoma County or Marin who are also excellent, but I don't know who they are. I hope they are able to access some excellent care and get some relief..

One of the real experts in the field who I believe experienced some issues with her late husband regarding traumatic brain injury is Pat Wolfe and I think she still lives over in Napa. You can google her or try this link....I think she would certainly be worth contacting.

There is something called the Rancho Scale for determining
recovery from closed head injury. It is from Rancho Los Amigos
Hospital in L.A. It is used in rehab for o.t.'s and p.t's as the
behavior is related to recovery.

locally you can try the chief o.t. at futures rehab on tesconi circle

her name is nora tallent, otr and she worked as the director of o.t.
at northcoast rehab on sotoyme street in santa rosa. She maybe
able to give you books to read in the o.t. profession.

you can try a mri and there is a center in fairfield, solano county,
which does a excellent job of mri's for adhd.
