Get a Mac for sure! Very user friendly.

I've had the best luck whith them when I've purchased the most powerful one I could afford, fastest CPU, most RAM, best-resolution screen, etc. Computer lifespan is said to be 3 years. I've had laptops that start breaking down before that, others that lasted longer, but ended up being limited because of capacity demands by newer software. They are harder to repair and more expensive & limited to upgrade.

Someone suggested getting a Mac. I won't go into that debate. I decided to go with the Windows environment because I use a huge variety of programs, and Windows software is much more widely available and has been generally less-expensive. Mac-heads say, "damn the expense, I love the operating system". These days, Mac's OS and Windows use the same CPU, so you can have both operating systems in one computer.

In any technical equipment purchase, whether it's computers, cameras, cars, etc. you should buy based on what you need it to do for you. That will answer your own question for you. What will you need it to be doing? Will you travel alot to work or around the world? If you won't be travelling alot, perhaps a desktop PC might be better - they're easier to upgrade, so last longer and are generally less-expensive in the long run.
