Dear Wacco-

Based on the recognized need for a more sustainable economy and improved ecological balance, I have come up with some ideas. To initiate a dialog and invite others to share in my vision, I will write some down here. For context I will articulate my sentiments regarding our situation, as briefly as possible. There are many ways to look at it all so I’ll just make a list of issues that we need to deal with collectively sooner or later (preferably sooner): Climate Change, Peak Oil, Economic sustainability, Food Security, Water Security, Ecological Overshoot, Etc. all exacerbated by general ignorance, inertia, and myopia.

These are huge issues. I think we need to take a hard look at these so that we can come up with realistic solutions. We are responsible for creating the future we want. So, without further ado, I offer my input.

In general, I see that we could be much more intelligent collectively regarding our financial and resource flows. We could be working much more synergistically rather than destructively competitive the way we do by default in the standard capitalist model. We need to start articulating a new model and move toward it. Our dependence on foreign resources and unsustainable systems causes tremendous harm, not to mention insecurity.

So I am putting together a sustainability team. I am looking for people with mixed skills and experience in different fields. This includes anyone with experience or passion in areas such as gardening/propagation, animal husbandry/aquaculture, solar heating/cooling retrofit, alternative energy design and installation, water reclamation, etc. My goal is to offer full-range service to landowners, urban, rural and other, who want to improve their ecological footprint as well as increase food, water, and energy security. I also plan to offer ways to increase financial sovereignty and abundance with available resources.

I see a team of individuals, each specialized in a particular domain, who work together with homeowners to draft a plan based on the particular location and its inhabitants. I want to put together a company or collective who offers full-spectrum expert sustainability services. We will do fact-based analysis as well as offer creative input, draft a plan and implement. The range of possibilities is great, so I see the need for a diverse group to be able to offer a full-service to landowners that is convenient as well as excellent.

I think this is a terrific idea. You might also want to network with others who are working on sustainablity.

Kelly Rajala, one of the founders of Pacifica's Livibility Project, has moved to West County and is working to clone it here.
https://www.livabilityproject.org/

She is looking to rent a large space that can become a community resource and education center where people can attend classes and workshops, see films, check out or purchase books, etc.

I also recommend you read Capitalism 3.0, which is available on the web as a PDF.

There is a Sonoma County chapter of the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies forming here also. https://www.livingeconomies.org/

I love the idea. I just finished the EAT Earth Activist Permaculture Design Training. I recommend it highly for all folks interested in the issues that
flombula brings up. I would love to help homebuilders /landowners /remodelers/landscapers etc create more sustainable homes/gardens and communities.
I am a Jill of many skills. But would love to be involved in a part time venture of this sort. Whats next?
