wHOA, HELLO! This is a must-read folks.
And thank you mad miles for bringing it up in a previous unrelated thread! It is the kind of headline that i imagined would have had me snoozing before the end of the first paragraph/sentence.

A sample:

"President Bush has signed a directive giving the White House much greater control over new rules and policy statements governing public health, safety, the environment, civil rights, and privacy. (By) executive order...each agency must have a regulatory office run by a political appointee to supervise the development of rules and documents providing guidance to regulated industries.
As a result the White House will have a gatekeeper in each agency to analyze the costs and the benefits of new rules and to ensure the agencies carry out Bush's priorities.
This strengthens the hand of the White house in shaping [i]rules that in the past were often generated by civil servants and scientific experts."

As i read between the lines it's sounding everyday more and more like Nazi Germany here in the good ol' U.S. of A. Heil Bushler! And i made the connection (again?) with that vaguely squirmy feeling i get when i see those trucks blasting down the road with the giant american flags whipping in the wind. All i saw was a swastika drenched in blood and billions of dollars of pilfered US Warbucks. And if this is what the front page of, essentially, the new york times is telling us - what they WANT us to know - I shudder to imagine the things they ARE NOT telling us...
This is just one man's opinion here folks, doubtless shared by many but by no means all. It's starting to get scary (again). I keep hoping that "this too shall (hurry up and) pass".
One thing is for sure: no one here gets out alive.

Yo Saysni! (I'm a Python Freak too)

You're welcome.

This subject is one, among other related topics, explored daily on my political info list: [email protected]

I also just was published on Dissident Voice with my comments about my frustration with the current anti-war movement: https://www.dissidentvoice.org/Jan07/Mendenhall30.htm

And I've asked that several substantial replies to me, with my two page response to one and short replies to the others be published on DV as well.

Even if they don't carry it I'll make it available to anyone interested.

A friend in China suggested I blog my film reviews. Maybe I should start a political blog? Then I could really kiss any chance of public school teaching goodbye!

Anyway all this shameless self-promotion is in the way of saying I agree with your worries about the fascist threat, although that concern has been around since the end of the seventies, at least, in Leftist circles. Sometimes it seems like paranoia, sometimes it is just slightly exagerated prescience.

Last night I wrote a thing about my peeves concerning some of the other drivers in this county. I'm holding onto it so as to not overstay my welcome on this board. But I mention it because it ends with my fears about the coming apocalypse as it is foreshadowed by American (U.S.) driving habits and vehicle choices. Maybe in a week or so.

And one more comment, about what they tell us vs. what they don't want us to know. Well taken and this is ongoing. Fears of the Imperial Presidency date back to Nixon. (And from the right back to FDR) Under Reagan us pinkos went on and on about the detention camps for dissidents being planned by FEMA. (Given their track record in New Orleans those fears now seem exagerated!)

The film "Children of Men" raises these issues very graphically. Me, I have a wait and see attitude. I think nature will get us before the "Forces of Order" do it to us. Of course both go hand in hand.

Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not out to get you!
(i.e. Us)

Today I'm just continuing to enjoy the pleasures of leisure and the first overcast day in over a week. We need rain!

And from another intertwined thread, Elliot, "concupiscence"? Dude, you Rock! Since I'm no longer reading esoteric social and political philosophy it's rare that I'm introduced to a new word, and I always welcome it when it happens. And one word meaning:

<TABLE class=luna-Ent><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top>1. sexual desire; lust. </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
<TABLE class=luna-Ent><TBODY><TR><TD class=dn vAlign=top>2.</TD><TD vAlign=top>ardent, usually sensuous, longing. </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Man, that defines my existence!!!

Ta All,
