Sebastopol's Apple Tree Morris team is offering a 4-week introductory Morris Dance workshop series for youth and adults.

Morris is a boisterous, athletic and colorful folk dance style that dates back hundreds of years to the farming communities in Southern England. With hankies or sticks in hand, and brass bells tied on each leg, morris dancers are a traditional part of important seasonal festivals from May Day to harvest celebrations.

Apple Tree Morris dances locally at the Celtic Festival and other local venues, was part of the Occidental's Fools Parade, and hosts May morning and Summer Solstice celebrations each year. If you are interested in learning more about this colorful style of traditional dance, join us for one or more nights of the workshop series.

You don't need experience, just enthusiasm. Wear comfortable sneakers and clothing you can move in, and be ready for a workout. The workshop material will build in complexity each week. If you aren't sure whether you can commit to the whole series, but want to give it a try, come to the first night, on September 29th. We'll start from the absolute basics and work our way up from there.

A special bonus this year will be a pub night with the Saint Albans Morris Men, visiting from England, on Thursday October 27th. There is no charge for the pub night, but you will have to buy your own beer. More details about this evening at the workshops.

Workshop Dates: September 29th, October 6th, 13th and 20th.

Thursday evenings from 7 PM to 9 PM
Youth Annex of the Sebastopol Community Center
425 Morris Street, Sebastopol, CA 95472.
