calling all cooks! I have been given 2 quarts of lovely Straus Organic Plain Yogurt and need recipes on what to do with all of it. We are a family of 3 and love all sorts of foods.

We would enjoy some nice savory recipes as well as sweet.

Thanks for the input in advance.

Ann,

Just the other day I got creative with some plain thick kefir I had purchased on impulse, added some milk to thin, some better than bullion, some worcestershire and a little garlic salt, played with the ratios until I had a really nice stroganoff. I think I put it on textured vegetable protien I got at Andy's, but it would work well over stripped beef or chicken as well.

Good luck, and have fun!

say hi to the family for me..

p.s. try adding fresh fruit & protien powder for a great macrobiotic smoothie

#1. Raita. VeryThinly slice (peel if regular variety, don't if they are English Organic variety), add chopped mint, a little chopped gren onion, salt and pepper, sit for 2 hours or so, mix and use as a side condiment for curried anything or spicy chicken, tofu or beans.

#2. Vita Health Food Dressing. Combine yogurt with a tiny bit of water, whisk, add some mayo and whisk again until a light creamy consistancy. Serve over a salad of grated carrots and beets with "spike" seasoning to top.

#3. Use yogurt as a substitute for buttermilk in Irish Soda Bread or bisquits.

#4. Just eat it with jam or chocolate sauce!

Enjoy.

This sounds good, but please tell me, what are we slicing very thinly (not peeled if they are healthy Brits?)

- Royce I believe she was refering to english cucumbers and they are wonderful and don't require seed removal for gas reduction as do the american variety. mindy

If you do not have milk or buttermilk for any baking needs--you can dilute your yoghurt with water or use like sour cream (without diluting it) or use in a salad dressing instead of mayo.
Great on top of a potato
Have fun :):

When I was in Greece we would have plain yogurt topped with cut up fresh fruit , then drizzle honey on it and top with roasted sesame seeds.. It was the best. I've never forgotton!

The smoothies are a great idea -- easy and you can be creative. its a good way to get berries (antioxidants), nuts (omega-3 and -6) and protien (the yogurt, also augment with powder as suggested) in one cup. The kids might like them, too. This Greek recipe below sounds fabulous!

Yogurt with lamb is good. That's probably a Greek thing, too!
