I may be the last kid on the block to find out that I can change my email and web service with Sonic from a cost of $51 per month to $29.95. I suggest others in the same boat inquire of Sonic as to how to get the same plan for a lot less per month in cost. :footstomp:

Hey has anyone done the earthlink deal of high speed DSL combined with unlimited local / long distance phone for $69.95 per month complete. They require you to sign a year contract and pay 19.99 for shipping the modum. If you break the contract it costs $149. It sounds like a good deal, but it has some issue with not being able to dial 911 if theres a power outage. Anyone know how earthlink is to deal with, if you can reach the operator, etc, etc.??? supposedly they contract w/ SBC (the sales rep said) but I'm not so sure she knew. I almost signed up but stopped during the varification part because I didn't understand what they meant by the e911 would not work during major power outages....

I ave been with SBC DSL for over a year now with no problems, and just switched last week to their $19.95/month program that requires NO CONTRACT! It can take a while to get through to customer support, but not always, and they have always solved my problems.

For what it's worth.

I have a lot of contact with people in Sonoma county regarding their computer issues, I have heard many complaints about earthlink's lack of support or outright inability to support their customers. The level of complaints I've heard for years is only surpassed by the amount of complaints I've heard about Comcast. I have only heard one complaint about Sonic, and the complaint wasn't valid anyway. Used to hear a lot of complaints about SBC, but their service seems to have improved quite a bit in the last couple years.

Earthlink has lousy customer support - unless you don't mind waiting an hour and a half to talk to someone in India who probably doesn't know the answer anyway. I had a client who had hosting with them and once we switched away from Earthlink everything changed for the better.

Sonic may cost a little more, but it is a local company and you can always talk to a real local person.

I am interested to know about the SBC for $19.95 though.......

and, if you subscribe to other scb/att services, you can get it as low as $12.95-14.95.

I had sbc dsl service and never had any problem with it. Their customer service was outstanding when I had questions, and they even went so far as to lower my already dirt cheap price upon a call to them for an unrelated issue. I found their employees to be courteous, friendly, fair and knowledgable. I now have comcast only because dsl is not available here on the river. I see nothing faster about high speed over dsl.:yinyang:

so it is important to notice the speed of the DSL service you are getting. the ATT plan for $19.99 only offers 384 kbps to 1.5 mbps.

You can get this same service from sonic for $17.95:
https://www.sonic.net/sales/broadband/dsl/residential.php

If you go to the next faster plan with ATT it is $24.99 and sonic offers it for $22.95

So it appears we can buy local AND save money.
