Have you been to Sayulita and do you have a recommendation? We are going there for the first time and would love suggestions before we go. We have been to Puerto Vallarta before so that isn't an option. I'm more curious about further north. Sandy

We went last Feb -
A nice relaxing place - you'll see a good fair amount of Sebastopolians & Canadians. It is getting a bit upscale with rooms -
Great place to learn surfing -
North facing beach - No sunsets in the water : (
A sewer through the middle of the town that empties into the ocean  .

Good food - beautiful surroundings - nice people -

Our family stayed at the Sayulita trailer park - great for a family - little kitchen - ping pong - bocce - kid friendly

I live (and rent out accomodations) about 30 mins. north of Sayulita in a town called La Penita de Jaltemba after the Bay it's on. This whole coastline is dotted with fabulous beaches, many remote and deserted where you can walk for miles without seeing anyone...well, maybe a man with a donkey or some fisherman. Enjoy it now, it is all slated for development in the near future.
Sayulita is a favorite of the jovens (young people) and as is San Francisco (locally called San Pancho) has a more international mix of visitors. I've enjoyed surfing contests there and the body surfing was also good. It's a bit too crowded for me (for the body surfing) and when I stayed overnight (in my VW camper) it was so loud (all night) that we had to move the vehicle to a more remote quiet street on the outskirts in order to get any sleep. Other people I know have stayed in hotels or houses there and have loved their vacations. It depends what you are looking for. Artists sell their works in the square. A Sayulita resident of seven years has complained to me of the disintegration of the moral fiber of the town's culture due to cocaine and other drugs which are on the increase.
Feel free to ask me specific questions.
