Greetings, west-county folks;

time has come for me to move on. For the past 3 years I have lived and participated in Sebastopol, what has been one of my best homes in my life so far. Love and work is now pulling me to Grass Valley, and I am following.

I just want to say thank you to all of you that have been out there to make this place called West County to be what it is. We are all very, very blessed. Never forget to count your blessings...

As a good bye, I would like to share a compiled list of local favorite resources for necessities as well as R+R in and around Sebastopol. All those places and people I have enjoyed and respected tremendously. For the sake of creating a local economy, we got to keep our resources local. So here are some of my picks:

Acupuncture: Laurel Brody, lAc (look her up): so nice, so skilled, so caring. Beautiful clinical setting.

Bagel: Grateful Bagel, 300 S. Main St., Sebastopol. 707.829.5220 - love their loxy lady. Nice folks. Good music, if you like Reggae...

Coffee Place: "My Friend Joe" at Andy's: Alexis's character and care makes the morning coffee even more so a delight.

Construction: talk to Martin (824-8030). He might lead you to the right place for your needs.

Dancing: 1) Sweat Your Prayers (Youth Annex, 3rd Friday of the month): one of my favorite things here. Leslie King provides this beautiful space of music and beauty for a dance journey of 2 hours. It's a wonderful community, and it such a workout, if you want it to be. 2) Soul Motion (Wishemann Hall, 1st and 4th Friday of the month): another fun format of a free-form dance workout. Lisa Rost and Zuza Engler are amazing in pulling out some real fun tunes.

Education: there is so much good stuff out there. I have been particularly impressed by the stuff that the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center (https://www.oaec.org) (oaec.org) is putting out. It is so important to stay in touch with this planet that houses and feeds us, especially since our mainstream (un-)education system mostly appears to focus on individualized specialization to uphold the current system of unsustainable consumer-dom (personal commentary...appologies to anyone who is so blind to be offended by this statement).

Electronic Repair: check with Paul Sarran ([email protected]) if he is still around. He has been honest and very helpful to me.

Flea Market: Sebastopol Flea Market (So. Gravenstein, Sat and Sun till 3ish): wonderful resource for used stuff. I always found what I was looking for when I set prior intentions.

Gift Store: Milk & Honey (Main Street, Sebastopol): they are just so nice, and have such nice things, and it all smells so good.

Grocery Store: Andy’s Market at Gravenstein Hwy: great source for bulk foods, local produce, and decently priced organic produce.

Gutter Repair: Collin Menzies (Gutter Man): I just like that guy. How could you not?

Landscaping: Sarah (823-3185): Now, I don’t remember her last name, but I have seen her work flourish amazingly. Very knowledgeable with an eye for beauty.

Local Farm: Laguna Farms, Sebastopol (823-0823): a local community supported agriculture (CSA) farm, Nice progressive folks. Support your local farms, eat local, with the seasons, and organic, and nothing should be in the way of your good health. They provide weekly boxes of local food for decent price.

Local Online Resource: well...hummm...well...I guess it is WWW.WACCOBB.NET (https://WWW.WACCOBB.NET). Thank you, Barry, for all the work you have been putting into this baby of yours. I do respect you. Good luck, keep it smooth, may it serve you, and the community.

Massage: Bruno Rowell, CMT (291-7333): wonderful work, very nice fellow. Grace Murdock, CMT (889-3165): delightful spirit, great energy. Also, check out Steve and Gail Blum at Healing Oasis, who are both wonderful practitioners, and provide a wonderful setting as well.

Mechanic: Pete's Automotive (off Hwy 12, Sebastopol): Excellent, honest, and very qualified car service. I have worked with Jason there for the past 3 years. He took great care of my Subaru.

Mexican Food: Pepe’s Restaurant, 2000 Sebastopol St, Santa Rosa: best cheap burritos etc ever. Else I have also dug El Tarasca in Sebastopol for their friendliness and decently priced taqueria food.

Nursery: Harmony Farms (Graton, on Hwy 116): I luuuv their 50% off pile...salvaged the most beautiful plants.

Performing Artist: Look out for Lou Montgomery. I love her work. She is very inspiring, and puts important messages into a nice and outrageous package of performance. In fact, a Lou-inspired anti-consumerism-credit-card-cutting-ceremony left me without credit card for 3 years. I am not sure if I recommend that though, since I am now also credit-scoreless, but hey…each their own.

Physical Therapy: check out Eddy Rosen, PT, in Cotati. I worked for him for a little while, and have been very impressed by his knowledge, care, and vision.

Sewing Needs: That little place "LEGACY" across from McDonald's in Sebastopol. Used fabrics and all for excellent prices. I got a nice used sewing machine for 25 bucks there.

Shoe Repair: check out that little place across the street from Rite Aide in Sebastopol, if you believe in re-use, and local resource.

Story Telling: Hari Meyers at the Sebastopol Center for the Arts (1st Friday of a month, 8 pm): Hari is gracefully carrying the old tradition of storytelling to our community with a wonderful repertoire of old Indian tales, epics, etc etc. Nice change from watching TV or movies. Luuuuuv it!

Thrift Store (clothes): The Dig (Goodwill Distribution Center, Santa Rosa on Yolanda): ultimate source for clothes and things by the pound, costume mania, bathroom and kitchen stuff, furniture, etc etc - Why buy new, when you can buy used? It just makes more sense.

Thrift Store (furniture, windows, building stuff): Recycle Town at the Sonoma County Dump: here, people drop off stuff that is still functional, and they resell it for near to nothing. Good way of keeping things in the flow

Vegetarian/ Vegan Food: Slice of Life, Sebastopol (next to Whole Foods): great people, great foods. Love their awesome salads, especially the soup and salad deal for lunch, when I was too lazy to bring my own.

---

Well, that is what I come up with right now, and there is plenty more, as you all know. I wish you all a peaceful happy life. I am looking forward to ongoing connections through times of visits and exchange.

Keep it simple, keep it local, stay open, do good.
